Plumbing Project Designer | Seattle, WA

IMEG is hiring a Plumbing Project Designer in Seattle, Washington, to lead plumbing and fire protection design efforts for moderate complexity projects and support larger, high‑complexity projects in collaboration with senior staff. The role involves work with engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions, client guidance, and oversight of building systems design, budgeting, and project coordination. Principal Responsibilities Lead plumbing and fire protection system analysis and design for moderate‑complexity projects. Create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standards. Partner with clients to understand project needs, gather requirements, communicate technical information, and maintain professional relationships. Support consulting project execution through planning, budgeting, and scheduling to meet deadlines and objectives. Document design decisions, client instructions, and project progress, including percent complete and fee expended. Analyze engineering challenges and develop practical, efficient solutions with senior engineers and consultants. Perform in‑process reviews of plumbing and fire protection designs, calculations, and specifications applying IMEG quality control processes. Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in plumbing engineering, contributing to research and innovation. Prioritize safety by identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with plumbing systems. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions aligned with project goals. Identify potential project issues and seek guidance from the Project Manager when needed. Support projects through bidding and construction administration phases. Required Qualifications and Skills Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Engineering in Training (EIT) Certification preferred. ASPE Certified Plumbing Design preferred. 5+ years of experience in building design consulting (6 preferred) or 9+ years in consulting or construction (10 preferred) in the plumbing or building design industry. Expertise in design techniques, tools, and concepts for technical plans and specifications. Strong technical and analytical skills, including principles of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics applicable to plumbing and fire protection design. Strong training and mentoring skills. Expertise in industry‑standard engineering software and tools. Mastery of code calculations for domestic water, waste, and vent systems. Advanced knowledge of specialty plumbing systems such as medical gas, laboratory gas, high‑rise, and rainwater/grey water systems. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Attention to detail and problem‑solving skills. Proficiency with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software. Proficient with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to travel up to 15% with occasional overnight stays. Additional Information This position is not eligible for sponsorship. Location: Seattle, WA State of Washington Salary Range (TENTATIVE): $86,000.00–$120,000.00. Individual pay will be based on experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
