Job Overview The Social Worker will serve as a support for students and families by providing services that identify and address the social-environmental issues that interfere with the educational process. Work with parents/guardians, teachers, school principal/principal's designee, and community based resources in implementing strategies that promote students' positive school adjustment. Position Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities Direct Service Perform casework services in a timely manner with individual students and/or their families to evaluate and resolve personal, social, or emotional maladjustments related to their educational and social progress Collaborate with campus staff and other school district personnel in determining and implementing strategies, both individual and small group, which promote student learning including drop-out prevention initiatives, truancy prevention supports behavior interventions, and other campus requested supports Make home visits upon request and/or as appropriate, based on collaboration with campus/district staff and in accordance with department guidelines Provide staff consultation on behavioral-emotional-environmental issues affecting student participation in the learning process Intervene in problem situations to facilitate strategies to address discipline, attendance issues and resolutions to conflict in order to prevent escalation of negative behaviors and subsequent consequences Provide crisis intervention services at the campus and district level Manage a caseload of McKinney Vento and PRS students Provide Tier II Services, i.e. solution focused counseling, process groups etc. Indirect Service Serve on campus, district and community committees including IEP, IST, and Attendance Committees to address educational issues, adjustment problems, safety issues, and program development for students Attend or conduct meetings for professional development as required Assist campuses in identifying and verifying the status of McKinney-Vento students, foster-care families and unaccompanied youth to confirm eligibility for services and to provide McKinney-Vento rights; advise families of available services as needed Train and mentor new Social Workers or student interns Provide staff and or parent trainings for campuses on identified topics, if requested Reports Maintain an accurate and detailed monthly calendar reflecting plans and activities Maintain a daily log of students seen Complete accurate and timely casenotes in the team electronic documentation system Supervisory Responsibilities None Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the above essential duties satisfactorily. Master's degree in Social Work LCSW under Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners OR LMSW LMSW under Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners OR LCSW Minimum of 2 years experience in working with children and families Knowledge of policies and procedures of social work services and cognizant of ethical and professional responsibilities Knowledge of social, psychological, and educational development of children Ability to interface with community agencies Ability to collaborate effectively with district staff and multiple campuses’ staff, students, and parents Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing Ability to demonstrate knowledge of cultural competence in working with diverse populations Ability to be organized in keeping up with documentation and reports Knowledge of Microsoft 365 (Excel, Power point etc.) Physical Requirements/Working Conditions The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers and presentation materials. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress. Additional Information This position requires travel to campuses, agencies, and homes throughout the community. Work is sometimes performed during home visits and may require some evenings and/or weekend work for parent events or campus events. If this position is assigned 100% to a Title 1 campus and is funded 100% by Title 1 funds, this position may be discontinued if funds are no longer available. Primary Location
