Job Description Position Summary The John E. Rouse-Colorado State University Beef Improvement Center, formerly known as the One Bar Eleven Ranch, is located nine miles east of Riverside and twenty-six miles southeast of Saratoga, Wyoming along the North Platte River. The ranch spans 6,415 acres, including 800 acres of state lease, 880 acres of BLM land, 740 acres of irrigated hay meadows, 200 acres of irrigated alfalfa (pivot sprinkler), 860 acres of irrigated pasture, and the remainder of dry land, sage brush, homestead, and buildings. The average elevation is about 7,200 feet with annual precipitation ranging from 9 to 13 inches. The ranch manages roughly 500 cows, replacement heifers, and bulls, all purebred but nonregistered Angus cattle owned by the Department of Animal Sciences, with ranch management supervised by department personnel. Essential Job Duties Assist BIC employees with all phases of ranch work, including fencing, irrigating, haying, cattle work, horse work, and office work/record keeping. Learn from and work with visiting professors and/or veterinarians. Maintain a positive and safe working environment for self and fellow interns and coworkers. Maintain the living quarters, work spaces, and work vehicles to a clean and usable standard. Conditions of Employment and Minimum Qualifications This is a temporary hourly position for individuals with a high school diploma or GED. Candidates must demonstrate interest in learning about modern livestock production and working on a research facility. Employees must provide documentation to employers to show identity and prove authorization to work. Communication and interpersonal skills are required. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and peak seasons is necessary. Applicants must meet the physical demands of lifting up to 50 lbs daily and performing manual tasks such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and handling. Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to weather and noise, is essential. Hazards include working near moving mechanical parts and with animals both restrained and unrestrained. Candidates must be able to live onsite in facility-provided housing and possess a valid driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date. Preferred Qualifications Applicants currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in a relevant field. Supervision Employees will be supervised by Lindsey Wamsley and/or James Puckett, managers of the CSU BIC. Salary Range $18.00 per hour. Required Application Documents Cover Letter and Resume/CV.
