Epidemiologist – Data Analyst

Responsibilities

Examples of Duties

• Collects data, coordinates statistical analysis of data and assists with evaluation and interpretation of findings to detect trends and significant findings;
• Conducts surveillance activities to identify and monitor disease and disability trends;
• Serves as resource and technical consultant on disease and disability patterns;
• Assists in timely and accurate reporting of public health data;
• Interprets and evaluates results of studies, assesses risks of disease and/or environmental hazards, provides information and makes recommendations to others regarding disease or disability patterns;
• Designs, conducts and evaluates community studies inclusive of data collection required for assessing general health conditions in the community;
• Develops and presents applicable educational material to staff, health care professionals and the public;
• Participates in a variety of meetings, committees, study groups and task forces in the community;
• Prepares correspondence and reports, including technical papers and assists in the development and preparation of project proposals for funding;
• Acts as liaison between the community, federal, state and other agencies and department personnel;
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with health professionals in the community and representatives of other agencies.

Minimum Qualification

• Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Public Health or other closely related health science with a concentration in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Computer Science or other closely related field; OR,
• Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Public Health or other closely related health science and two (2) years of experience in informatics or computer science; OR,
• Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of experience in informatics or computer science.

Special Requirement

NOTE: Incumbents in this position must be willing to be immunized for diseases as necessary and appropriate and be available by pager, during business hours and after hours, to respond, as necessary, to notifications of public health emergencies.

Salary: $88,032
