Maintenance Mechanic

Mechanic

This role focuses on inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing a fleet of vehicles, including tractors, trailers, straight trucks, box trucks, and company vehicles, to ensure safe and efficient operation above DOT standards. You will use your mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic skills to keep all vehicles in top working condition, maintain accurate repair records, and support a critical operation in a unionized food and beverage manufacturing environment on a third-shift schedule.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and diagnose vehicles for mechanical concerns, safety issues, and overall roadworthiness.
• Maintain and repair all in-house vehicles, including company vehicles, tractors, trailers, straight trucks, and box trucks, in a safe and efficient manner.
• Evaluate and service all vehicles on a revolving schedule to maintain performance above DOT standards and ensure safe operations.
• Use computers and diagnostic equipment to identify and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems.
• Perform fleet maintenance and mechanical repairs, including work on diesel engines, transmissions, motors, and related systems.
• Conduct electrical troubleshooting and repairs on vehicle systems, including three-phase and other electrical components as needed.
• Perform welding and fabrication work as required to support vehicle and equipment repairs.
• Handle equipment maintenance and repair tasks for heavy equipment and related mechanical systems.
• Complete all required paperwork and documentation in a timely, accurate, and legible manner.
• Maintain detailed records and fleet repair logs to track maintenance history and ensure regulatory compliance.

Essential Skills

• Proven ability to inspect, diagnose, and repair a variety of vehicles, including tractors, trailers, straight trucks, box trucks, and company vehicles.
• Hands-on experience with diesel engines and diesel vehicle maintenance.
• Experience in fleet maintenance and vehicle maintenance in a shop or garage environment.
• Mechanical maintenance skills, including work on engines, transmissions, motors, and related components.
• Proficiency in using computers and diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot vehicle issues.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Knowledge of applicable DOT standards and regulations and the ability to apply them in daily work.
• Ability to perform electrical troubleshooting and repairs, including work with three-phase systems.
• Experience with equipment maintenance and maintenance repair tasks for heavy equipment.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with diesel engines (preferred).
• Knowledge of electrical systems and hydraulics (preferred).
• Experience in welding and fabrication for vehicle and equipment repairs.
• Experience as a garage mechanic or fleet mechanic, preferably with experience moving trailers.
• Class A Mechanic designation and State Inspection License (preferred but not required).

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Reading, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $33.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
