Staff Engineer/New Product Development (Hybrid, Franklin Lakes, NJ)

BD seeks a Staff Engineer to lead thermoplastic elastomer platform development for next-generation medical devices. The role combines polymer science research with cross-functional product development, translating material innovations into scalable solutions for infusion, drug delivery, and vascular access applications.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of next-generation TPE formulations and structural systems for medical devices
• Design and execute research strategies investigating polymer composition, processing, sterilization, and aging effects
• Develop characterization methods, predictive models, and engineering design rules from experimental data
• Translate customer, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory requirements into material specifications
• Collaborate with suppliers, universities, and internal teams to advance platform strategy and innovation

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Mechanical Engineering
• Significant experience in polymer research, formulation development, or material characterization
• Proven ability to design experiments, analyze datasets, and establish structure-property relationships
• Strong technical writing and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Demonstrated capability to independently lead complex research programs
• Master's or PhD in materials-related field (preferred)
• Experience with TPEs, elastomers, or medical device materials (preferred)
