Mental Health Therapist Position Title: Mental Health Therapist

Program: The Crisis Response Team is a multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing quality care and assessments to individuals and families who are in need of crisis intervention. The team provides behavioral health services to walk-in customers, agency residential programs, and in other community settings. Position Summary: Employee serves as part of a mobile crisis team and provides behavioral health services to individuals in a crisis. Respond to on-scene crisis situations and interface with law enforcement and other emergency personnel as requested. Provide intervention and counseling services to walk-in customers, agency residential programs, and in other community settings. Provides on-going assessment, crisis intervention, individual, family, and group therapy and case management services. Develops strength-based service plans, monitors treatment progress, documents interactions and maintains electronic clinical records and other reporting data for individuals with mild to severe mental illness and/or substance use disorders. Coordinates with internal as well as external supportive services to deliver needed services to clients. Collaborates with clinical supervisor, other team members and psychiatrist regarding treatment. Employee may assist with transporting customers in crisis to local resources when needed. Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Credentials
- Master's Degree in psychology, social work, or other behavioral health discipline from an accredited college or university required
- Colorado clinical licensure in appropriate discipline highly desired (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LP)
- Ability to become credentialed with various health insurance companies if licensed
- Bilingual preferred (Monetary incentives available)
- CAC preferred
- Valid Colorado driver's license and driving record that meets with agency insurability requirements as set forth for someone that must transport clients
Experience
- 2 years' experience in the Behavioral Health Field preferred
- Experience in coordinating mental health intervention plans and services with other agencies Knowledge of:
- Mild to severe mental health and/or substance use disorders/disabilities and the recovery process.
- Professional and ethical guidelines as outlined by the State of Colorado.
- Basic and routine computer keyboarding, programs and software.
- Basic, routine, and advanced records maintenance and filing practices.
- Basic, routine, and advanced office management practices and operating procedures.
- Workplace policies and professionalism.
- Organizational structure, workflow and operating procedures.
- Effective de-escalation techniques. Skills/Abilities to:
- Identify and support appropriate diagnostic assessment using current diagnostic system.
- Coordinate mental and/or behavioral health intervention plans and services with other agencies.
- Plan and use effective interventions with clients. Appropriately assess the need for law enforcement involvement.
- Provide treatment and case management in routine and crisis situations.
- Plan, organize, time manage and prioritize multiple tasks and assignments. Use effective follow through. Endure periods of heavy workload.
- Visually assess responses to mental illness or reaction to substance abuse medications.
- Read, analyze, and interpret related professional periodicals, journals, technical procedures or government regulations.
- Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
- Communicate effectively and positively, both orally and in writing with a wide range of individuals and constituencies, including when under emotionally charged and stressful situations.
- Work with diverse populations and be culturally sensitive.
- Maintain confidentiality. Responsibilities:
- Adhere to utilization, quality improvement and corporate compliance policy and standards.
- Provide services to clients as assigned by administrative/clinical supervisor. May work with specific age group and/or level of care based on program assignment.
- Provide person-centered assessment, goal planning, and treatment for mental health and/or substance use issues. Provide screening, intakes, and assessment of clients utilizing required instruments and formats within appropriate time lines.
- Develop strength-based written treatment plans/updates and continuing care plans and make appropriate referrals. Complete written discharge summaries and correspondence within established time lines.
- Observe clients in a variety of situations. Assess diagnosis and mental status of clients, evaluate current level of functioning, and develop and implement treatment/service plan to address clients' needs.
- Intervene and de-escalate crisis situations with clients. Provide crisis intervention via telephone or face-to-face in a variety of settings that may include crisis walk in services, mobile on-site services, residential settings, etc. Assess risk of harm to self or others and arrange needed resources.
- Collaborate with other clinicians, law enforcement, external providers, and psychiatrists to provide services to clients. Maintain close and cooperative relationships with community agencies and other public agencies in carrying out treatment/service plans.
- Collaborate continuously with assigned clients in order to devise safety planning, provide symptom management, identify support systems, reduce and mitigate risk factors. May deliver services to clients in their homes or other settings in the community.
- Assist individuals in improving their well-being and quality of life by training in behavioral skills; educate clients to make informed choices; develop clients' coping skills; help clients to problem solve and negotiate tasks of daily living.
- Learn, utilize, and support fidelity of any evidence-based practices within assigned program to ensure effective interventions with clients.
- Perform case management services as needed to assist clients to meet their goals as stated in his/her service and/or treatment plans. Refer clients to internal and external supportive services such as vocational, medical, social services, and housing authority as well as residential, respite, and inpatient treatment.
- Maintain electronic health records in accordance with agency standards; confirm coding of services rendered is ethically appropriate and results in successful billing. May include entry into partnering agency electronic systems (i.e. integrated care).
- Demonstrate fiscal responsibility by supporting agency collection policies and procedures; assure client understanding of service charges and fee changes.
- Work proactively with payor sources to ensure payment of services; align services with payor authorizations and/or request authorization prior to provision of service.
- Advocate for clients in many different forums including at the federal, state and local court systems, with family, and/or school system.
- May monitor Antabuse, urine analysis, breathalyzers and other medication as required.
- Facilitate counseling groups as assigned. May provide intake, inpatient admissions and Medicaid authorizations.
- Attend staff meetings, clinical supervision and other meetings as assigned.
- May instruct and supervise students serving internships and/or provide clinical supervision of other staff, based upon appropriate credentials.
- May complete 72 hour hold and provide other 27-65 services as allowed by statute and may support emergency commitment and involuntary commitment processes. May be called upon to restrain clients in certain environments.
- May use center vehicle to transport clients for necessary treatment and/or community connections.
- May be called upon to occasionally make formal presentations or participate in public speaking engagements as representation for NRBH.
- Other duties as assigned by the Program Director and/or Coordinator. Working Conditions:
Services may involve travel to offsite locations for assessments, service provision, and crisis management. Service delivery environments and conditions may vary based on program assignment. Work hours can vary, and may require some on-call scheduling including weekends, evenings, and holidays per program requirements. Residential assignments may require on-duty meal periods.
