Overview This Correctional Support Licensed Trades Supervisor II (CSLTS II) is a Licensed Electrician Lieutenant at the Trinidad Correctional Facility, a Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) prison facility in Trinidad, CO. Benefits Distinctive career advancement opportunities throughout the state system Strong, secure retirement benefits including PERA Defined Benefit or Defined Contribution Plans, plus 401(k) and 457 plans Medical and dental health plans Short‑ and long‑term disability coverage Paid life insurance 11 paid holidays per year plus vacation and sick leave Wellness program, tuition reimbursement, training opportunities and more Primary Responsibilities Maintain safety and security of the facility and work sites Communicate accurately to train staff and inmates in the use of controlled items, keys, tools, equipment, chemicals, and procedures Conduct work‑site searches and monitor workplace environment and inmate behavior Initiate verbal reprimands and, when necessary, apply restraints or use‑of‑force techniques following agency policies Provide supervision or work‑lead duties to assigned staff, setting high performance standards Promote safe construction/work practices and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Participate in the hiring process Implement or provide work‑lead input in the Performance Management Program (PMP) Coach and mentor staff regarding agency processes, encouraging cohesive teamwork and career development Resolve conflict and informal grievances at the lowest level possible Ensure safe, efficient, compliant, and cost‑effective electrical systems through preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance Plan projects by reviewing work orders, reading blueprints, anticipating challenges, researching historical data, and obtaining vendor price quotes Coordinate logistical support with other trades and shops, assign tasks, inspect work, and ensure timely project completion Maintain strict compliance with the National Electric Code (NEC) and all applicable regulations, policies, and standards, keeping accurate records Maintain adequate inventory of supplies Minimum Qualifications Active journeyman or master electrician license issued by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA). A copy of the license is required. Five (5) years of employment experience performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance and/or installations of electrical systems. Substitution Options Successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or a degree through an accredited vocational or trade school that demonstrates equivalent competencies may substitute for experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Transcripts must be attached, showing institution name, student ID, course curriculum, degree earned, and date awarded. Required Competencies Create a cohesive team, mentor, and motivate staff Self‑motivation and strong work ethic Tactful and diplomatic interpersonal skills Exceptional discernment and decision‑making skills Effective delegation Comprehensive understanding of CDOC Performance Management Program (PMP) policy Excellent time‑management and communication skills Integrity and dependability Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions Proficiency in electrical systems and electronic devices Blueprint reading and cost estimating; project implementation from start to finish Effective communication with staff and inmates, providing clear instructions and monitoring progress Response to emergency situations involving inmates or electrical systems Willingness to work with inmates, preparing them for community re‑entry Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and work in high, tight, and confined spaces Follow policy and provide efficient, effective service while utilizing state resources responsibly Self‑control and ability to handle stressful or potentially violent situations Remain alert, emotionally stable, and mentally resilient under pressure Tolerance to stress, confinement, and high‑stakes interaction Read and comprehend English; communicate fluently in English verbally and in writing Create accessible documents and technical content that follows plain‑language guidelines Preferred Qualifications Work experience with emphasis on commercial, industrial, or correctional settings Eligibility Criteria Colorado state resident, or non‑resident within 30 miles of the state border Must be 21 years of age or older Valid driver’s license (Colorado, non‑restricted) High school diploma or GED No felony convictions Valid U.S. work authorization at time of application (no H‑1B sponsorship) Equal Employment Opportunity Statement The State of Colorado is an equal opportunity employer committed to building inclusive, innovative work environments.
