ACIBuilds.com Summary/Objective:Our Mechanical Engineers position for Modular Manufacturing is an experienced licensed Professional Engineer that can work with minimal supervision and be able to function and make decisions independently or as part of a team. The purpose of this position is to fill the need for full engineering duties on smaller to mid-size projects for our Modular Manufacturing Department and add supplemental engineering support to our commercial construction department and industrial department. Areas of function for this position can vary from full engineering and design, to adding value to our design assist projects, to recommending and supporting choices for RFI proposals and value engineering choices. This position reports to Fabrication management and at times, may need to work on projects in the field and with our Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) department for modeling purposes. Essential Functions:Work without supervision with latitude for independent action and decision making.Inform managers of workload and any changes in project scope or additional services.Able to communicate mechanical system selections to include codes and guidelines, sustainable design, interdisciplinary coordination with key project stakeholders.Develop construction drawing packages and write construction specifications on intermediate projects of limited complexity and with little oversight.Model different aspects of a facility to include MEP FP and structural components within industry software packages (AutoCAD, Revit MEP).Select and layout mechanical equipment such as pumps, chillers, fans and boilers.Design and coordinate ductwork and piping systems, layout of mechanical equipment rooms, performing load calculations, and providing construction administration services.Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, and cost of design or applications.Research design, and evaluate mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.Support the development of designs, specifications, systems narratives, and system layouts for a variety of projects and project sizes.Review engineering design proposals, design drawings, specifications and other technical document submissions and recommend improvements to support changes.Assists Project Manager by preparing all necessary back-up related material needed for change requests or information requests.Assist in the technical training and upgrading of skills of more junior personnel.Conduct field surveys of existing conditions for design development and system recommendationsWork with senior leadership to grow our mechanical practice.Performs other duties as assigned.Supervisory Responsibility: No Required:Valid up to date Professional Engineering Licensed for the state of Virginia. (North Carolina and Maryland is a plus.)5 years of experience in a commercial construction environment; and/or equivalent combination of education and experienceAble to pass background checks.Experience with usage on Autodesk software (Revit, Revit with Fabrication CAD MEP parts, Navisworks)Well experienced with performing engineering calculations, and developing and implementing HVAC, mechanical utility, and piping systems designs with limited supervision required.Experience with performing load calculations using design software.Experience with computational fluid dynamics softwareExperience with calculating tolerances, dimensions, and thermal analysesExperience with the mechanical/plumbing codeKnowledge of the ASHRAE standards, International Building Code, and pertinent NFPA publications related to mechanical systems.Required software competencies include MS Excel, MS Word, and BluebeamMust be able to pass pre-offer pre-employment drug screen, and may be required to satisfactorily complete additional background checks as required (i.e. DMV, criminal history)Because this position may have access to company vehicles, candidates must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and must be insured.Must adhere to all company policy and proceduresThe work environment and physical demands required would be representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, and may include, but are not limited to the following: Work Environment:This position is a mixed work environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopier, filing cabinets and fax machines.Position may require visits to construction sites to perform investigative duties in open, noisy and dusty spaces.Must be available to work assigned schedules Physical Demands:This job requires intermittent times needed long period of sitting.The job requires the ability to visit commercial and industrial sites for the intent of performing inspections and observations that may be physically demanding. These inspections and observations may be made at heights, in confined spaces, and may require the use of a respirator to perform the inspections.
