Registered Nurse - Full Time - PACU

Sentara CarePlex Hospital is recruiting for a Registered Nurse for the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) in Hampton, VA. This full‑time position (0.9 FTE) offers a swing shift schedule with rotating days, mid, and evenings. Eligible candidates may receive a generous sign‑on bonus of $15,000 and relocation assistance. Position Summary This 10‑bed PACU provides critical recovery care for a wide range of surgical procedures, including vascular, urology & gynecology, orthopedics, oncology, bariatrics, and general surgery. The unit also oversees recovery for patients receiving general anesthesia in cardiovascular interventional radiology (CVIR) and endoscopy departments. Key Responsibilities Perform comprehensive post‑anesthesia assessments, emphasizing airway management, hemodynamic stability, and pain control. Manage 10‑bed unit flow, prioritizing patient acuity and discharge readiness. Collaborate closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and proceduralists to ensure seamless continuity of care. Administer medications and treatments according to established policies and patient needs. Educate patients and families regarding post‑operative care and discharge instructions. Qualifications Current and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license. BSN preferred; ADN required. BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required; CPAN preferred. Minimum two years experience in an ICU and/or PACU setting. Proficiency with Phase I recovery and continuous patient monitoring. Experience managing critical titratable drips such as phenylephrine, norepinephrine, and midazolam (precedex). Call Requirements Weeknight call: 4–5 shifts per 6‑week block, 21:00–07:00. Weekend call: 1 weekend per 6‑week block, Saturday 07:00–Monday 07:00 (48‑hour continuous coverage). Benefits Medical, dental, and vision plans.
