Position InformationNY HELP: YesAgency: General Services, Office of Title: Professional Engineer 1 (Environmental) - VID 222802Occupational Category: Other Professional CareersSalary Grade: 24Bargaining Unit: PS&T - Professional, Scientific, and Technical (PEF)Salary Range: From $95406 to $120439 Annually Employment Type : Full-Time Appointment Type : Contingent Permanent Jurisdictional Class : Non-competitive Class Travel Percentage : 20%Schedule Workweek : Mon-FriHours Per Week : 37.5Workday From : 8 AM To : 4 PM Flextime allowed? : No Mandatory overtime? : No Compressed workweek allowed? : No Telecommuting allowed? : YesLocation County : Erie Street Address : 27 Masten Ave, Room 121 : City : Buffalo State: NY Zip Code: 12242Job Specifics Duties Description : Duties include, but are not limited to:• Perform environmental engineering duties including designing water/wastewater treatment systems, distribution systems, onsite disposal systems, etc.• Prepare reports relating to water/wastewater and other environmental engineering systems, including recommendations for changes in design, construction or operational procedures and practices.• Prepare environmental drawings and details, specifications, estimates, and/or studies for design projects under the direction of licensed staff.• Coordinate design drawings and related specifications, construction costs estimates, etc., with the other technical disciplines. • Actively manage the schedule of assigned projects according to workload, priorities, and design schedules.• Review reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by design consultants.• Actively oversee consultant design work for assigned projects.• Develop and maintain project documentation, including records of meetings, correspondence, and progress• Review shop drawings, respond to contractor Requests for Information, create and/or review Information Bulletins, and provide similar construction administration and observation during the project’s construction.• Perform a full range of supervisory duties.• Perform other duties as assigned.Operational Needs:• Travel may be required (approximately 20%). • Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job. Minimum Qualifications : This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS)* and applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position:A New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below; OR a New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below.Qualifying degrees: Aeronautical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Engineering Technology, Environmental Design Engineering, Environmental Resources Engineering, Environmental Systems Engineering, Forest Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Paper Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Soil and Water Resources Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees.Qualifying experience: One year of full-time experience in sanitary, public health or environmental engineering.ORCurrent New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 22 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.NOTE: IN ORDER TO AWARD THE PROPER CREDIT FOR WORK EXPERIENCE, RESUMES MUST INCLUDE MONTH AND YEAR FOR START AND END DATES. IF ANY OF THIS EXPERIENCE IS LESS THAN FULL TIME YOU MUST INDICATE THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF HOURS WORKED PER WEEK. Candidates hired via NY HELPS will be appointed on a permanent non-competitive basis and will begin a probationary period.At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected that NY HELPS employees will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to take an exam. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.
