MULTILINGUAL LEARNER (MLL) TEACHER - 1.0 FTE

Position Summary

The Multilingual Learner (MLL) Teacher provides English Language Development (ELD) instruction and related support services to multilingual learners. The MLL Teacher supports students in developing English language proficiency and accessing grade-level content in alignment with district curriculum, Washington State standards, and program requirements.

Essential Functions

• Provide direct instruction in English language development consistent with Washington State ELD Standards.
• Plan, implement, and adapt instruction to meet the linguistic and academic needs of multilingual learners.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers and other staff to support student access to core instruction.
• Utilize multiple instructional strategies, including sheltered instruction, to support language acquisition.
• Assess student progress using district and state-approved measures (e.g., WIDA) and maintain appropriate records.
• Participate in data team meetings, MTSS processes, and student support planning as assigned.
• Assist in the identification, placement, and reclassification of multilingual learners in accordance with state and federal requirements.
• Maintain compliance with all program requirements, including documentation and reporting associated with Title III and other applicable programs.
• Communicate with families regarding student progress; utilize interpretation/translation services as appropriate.
• Participate in IEP, Section 504, and other meetings as appropriate to support student needs.
• Engage in professional growth activities and district initiatives as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the scope of the position and the collective bargaining agreement.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate
• English Language Learner (ELL/ESL) Endorsement, or eligibility for endorsement with willingness to enroll in and complete an approved ELL/ESL endorsement program within a district-approved timeline.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with multilingual learners at the elementary level.
• Training in research-based instructional strategies for language acquisition (e.g., GLAD, SIOP).
• Bilingual/multilingual proficiency.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of second language acquisition and culturally responsive instructional practices.
• Ability to plan and deliver differentiated instruction.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, students, and families.
• Ability to use assessment data to inform instruction and monitor student progress.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

• Ability to lift 25 pounds (e.g. classroom materials, student assistance)
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the school day
• Frequent bending, stooping , and reaching
• Adequate vision and hearing to supervise students and maintain a safe environment
• Ability to actively monitor to respond to student behavior in classrooms, playgrounds, and other school settings
• Fine motor skills for writing, typing and instructional tasks
• Ability to communicate clearly (verbal and written) with students, staff and families
• Capability to respond quickly in emergency situations
• Job requires daily work in noisy and active environments both indoors and outdoors

Terms of Employment

• This position is part of the certificated bargaining unit and is subject to the terms and conditions of the Dieringer Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• Salary, work year, and hours shall be in accordance with the current certificated salary schedule and applicable provisions of the CBA.

Calendar: 180 Days + 4 PLE Days
