Job Title: Learning & Engagement (L&E) Staff

Department: Learning

Reports To: Manager of Family and Youth Programming

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (contingent)

Salary Range: $13 hourly

Job Summary: The Learning & Engagement Contingent will aid in a variety of Learning and Engagement roles at the Columbus Museum of Art. This is a contingent position and will be asked to work on “as needed” basis or at the convenience of an individual’s personal schedule.

 

Duties and Responsibilities :

• Assist Learning and Engagement with program preparation, execution, and reflection. Programs include but are not limited to:
  • Open Studio: A family friendly drop-in program with a new art project each month. 
  • Studio Thinking Workshops: Workshops designed to encourage studio habits of the mind. 
  • Summer, Winter, and Spring Art Workshops: day camps for PreK – 8th grade. 
  • Off-site programming and other public programming in the museum and around the city, such as tabling at festivals. 
• Organize, maintain, reset the Studio space, coordinating with L&E management for maintenance and facility needs. 
• Organize, maintain, and prep hands-on activities in the galleries. 
• Interact with visitors to create a welcoming and creative environment. 
• Other duties as assigned. 

Roles and responsibilities will vary depending on the type of shift you are assigned.

Availability: Consistent long-term weekday availability is required. Flexible weekend and holiday availability is preferred. CMA is closed on major holidays. Time-off requests are limited during periods of high visitation; this position must be available during the weeks surrounding major holidays. 

 

Qualifications: 

1. Demonstrated experience in education, youth and family programming, or customer service. 

1. Ability to communicate and work well with staff and non-museum professionals (such as teachers and caregivers) on collaborative projects. 

1. Experience working with children and families. 

1. Demonstrated ability to interact with people of all ages in a friendly, professional, and enthusiastic manner. 

1. Willingness to be flexible with work schedule (including weekends and evenings) to accommodate programs. 

1. The ability to think creatively, stay organized, and approach assigned roles with strategic problem-solving and self-sufficiency. 

1. Demonstratable cultural competency and comfort engaging with diverse peoples and backgrounds. 

1. Fluency in another language in addition to English is a plus. 

 

Physical Demands:

To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the staff member must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, raise hands and arms in reaching motion, talk, and hear. May occasionally need to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Staff members may frequently have to lift 10-25 lbs. Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus are necessary. Wherever possible, accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. 

 

Working Conditions: 

The weekday work environment is ordinarily quiet, with occasionally moderate to high visitation due to school groups, tours, workshops, and holidays. 

The work environment on weekends, particularly Sundays, is usually moderate to very high, requiring lots of walking, talking, and maintenance of activities.
