VCI is a Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier (QVM) certified remount facility and supports customers through ambulance sales, remounting, service, repair, body work, graphics, parts, and mobile service.

Position summary

The Senior Ambulance Remount Technician performs the skilled mechanical, electrical, fabrication, and systems-integration work required to remove an ambulance module from its existing chassis, refurbish or modify it as needed, and install it safely on a new chassis. The successful candidate is a versatile craftsperson who can read schematics, diagnose 12-volt electrical systems, fabricate precise solutions, and take personal ownership of quality, safety, and schedule.

What you will do

• Complete ambulance remount projects from initial teardown through final inspection and delivery.
• Inspect and document the incoming unit; identify damage, wear, corrosion, fit-up issues, and scope changes before and during teardown.
• Safely disconnect, lift, remove, position, align, and secure ambulance modules using approved fixtures, lifting equipment, mounting methods, and torque requirements.
• Prepare and modify new chassis and existing modules, including body mounts, brackets, steps, bumpers, cab-to-module interfaces, trim, seals, and related structural components.
• Fabricate and install components using measurement, layout, cutting, drilling, grinding, fastening, and welding techniques appropriate to steel and aluminum.
• Install, route, terminate, test, and troubleshoot 12-volt DC and 120-volt AC circuits, wiring harnesses, multiplex controls, warning systems, scene lighting, shore-power systems, and vehicle accessories.
• Integrate and test module systems such as HVAC, oxygen and suction plumbing, cabinetry, seating, doors, latches, windows, lighting, and safety equipment, as assigned.
• Diagnose fitment, electrical, mechanical, and finish-quality problems; develop sound repairs instead of passing defects downstream.
• Perform functional testing, leak checks, quality inspections, punch-list corrections, and road-test support before release.
• Follow applicable OEM instructions, Ford QVM requirements, federal vehicle safety requirements, and VCI quality and safety procedures.
• Accurately record labor, parts, inspection results, and work completed; communicate delays, material needs, and scope concerns early.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and help less-experienced technicians improve their skills.
• All other duties as assigned

Required qualifications

• At least 3 years of hands-on experience in ambulance remounting, emergency-vehicle upfitting, specialty-vehicle manufacturing, truck-body installation, fleet repair, or a closely related trade.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair 12-volt DC electrical systems using wiring diagrams, a digital multimeter, test lights, and systematic troubleshooting methods.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with precision measurement, drilling, fastening, sealing, fit-up, and component installation.
• Working fabrication skills; ability to safely use common metalworking and power tools. Welding capability is strongly preferred for senior-level candidates.
• Ability to read and follow drawings, electrical schematics, work instructions, build specifications, and quality checklists.
• A consistent record of safe work, reliable attendance, careful workmanship, and personal accountability.
• Valid driver’s license and the ability to safely operate company and customer vehicles.
• High school diploma or equivalent; relevant trade-school, military, or apprenticeship training is valued.

Highly preferred

• Direct experience completing Type I, Type III, or medium-duty ambulance remounts.
• Experience with ambulance multiplex systems, warning-light systems, HVAC, shore power, oxygen/suction systems, or Ford commercial chassis.
• Aluminum and/or steel MIG or TIG welding experience.
• Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT), ASE, HVAC/refrigerant, OEM, welding, or related certifications.
• Experience with Ford QVM processes, NFPA 1917, CAAS Ground Vehicle Standards, or structured vehicle quality-control systems.
• Ability to lead a work cell, mentor teammates, or independently own a remount through completion.

• Team contribution, reliability, and care for customer vehicles and company equipment.

Physical and work requirements

This is a hands-on shop role. The employee must be able to stand, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work in and around vehicle interiors for extended periods; safely use ladders, lifts, hoists, welding and fabrication equipment, hand tools, and power tools; and lift or move up to 50 pounds independently and heavier components with assistance or mechanical equipment. Compensation, benefits, and relocation

COMPENSATION PACKAGE

Hourly pay: $24–$55, based on directly relevant skills and experience. Overtime: Due to strong customer demand and a growing backlog, overtime is expected to remain available for the foreseeable future. Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off, and paid holidays. Relocation: Assistance is available for highly qualified candidates and may include travel, temporary lodging, and moving reimbursement, subject to a written offer, successful completion of applicable background checks, and company policy.
