Manufacturing Engineer

Bucher Hydraulics is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support production equipment, capital project execution, and floor-level engineering across three manufacturing facilities. Based in Grand Rapids with regular travel to Newaygo and Elgin, this role provides hands-on engineering support where it is needed -- working directly with production teams, maintaining equipment documentation, supporting CNC programs, and assisting in capital project execution under the direction of the Director of Manufacturing Engineering. This role operates within the Production Systems & Infrastructure function and does not carry process improvement, continuous improvement, or CI program responsibilities.

This is a role for someone who is comfortable on the shop floor, takes ownership of problems, and can move between facilities and projects without losing momentum.

Key Responsibilities

Production Equipment Support

• Provide day-to-day engineering support for production equipment across Grand Rapids, Newaygo, and Elgin facilities -- troubleshooting, process adjustments, and technical problem solving at the floor level.

• Support CNC machining operations including program edits, tooling changes, and process documentation.

• Assist in maintaining equipment documentation, work instructions, and maintenance procedures at each site.

Capital Project Execution

• Support the Director of Manufacturing Engineering in executing capital equipment projects -- coordinating site preparation, installation, and runoff activities at each facility.

• Assist with vendor coordination, equipment installation management, and commissioning documentation.

• Track open project actions at each site and report status to the Director.

New Product and Tooling Support

• Support new product introduction at each facility by assisting with tooling and fixturing development, equipment readiness verification, and launch coordination.

• Assist in quoting manufacturing operations for new and prototype parts -- cycle times, tooling requirements, and equipment needs.

Multi-Site Presence

• Maintain a regular cadenced presence at Newaygo and Elgin in addition to Grand Rapids home base -- building relationships with production teams and Plant Managers at each location.

• Serve as the on-the-ground engineering resource at each site for day-to-day support while capital programs and strategic initiatives are managed at the Director level.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering or equivalent technical experience.

• 3 or more years of manufacturing engineering experience in a precision machining, assembly, or industrial manufacturing environment.

• Hands-on experience with CNC machining operations and production floor troubleshooting.

• Ability and willingness to travel regularly between multiple facilities in Michigan and Illinois.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with production operators, maintenance teams, and plant leadership.

Preferred

• Experience with hydraulic components, valve machining, or fluid power manufacturing.

• Familiarity with capital equipment installation and commissioning processes.

• Background in tooling design, fixturing, or manufacturing process documentation.

• Experience supporting new product launches in a precision manufacturing environment.
