Paralegal

Marathon Petroleum is seeking a results-driven and service-oriented Paralegal to join our Law Litigation team. This position provides support to in-house legal counsel and other stakeholders through litigation case management, legal research, and the coordination of document requests, discovery, and trial preparation. Assists with subpoenas, litigation compliance, document management, and the preparation of court filings and litigation-related materials.

Locations: Findlay, Ohio, or other locations such as Houston, TX, San Antonio, TX, or Denver, CO may be considered for internal candidates.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provides initial intake and review of litigation matters, legal process, subpoenas, and other legal and/or technical documents for the Law – Litigation team.
• Supports management of litigation matters, projects, reports, and research with expertise in and in compliance with specialized legal software applications for hold orders, matter management, e-discovery, and document management systems, processes, programs, and technology tools.
• Requests, gathers, reviews, and analyzes company information, files, and documents to respond to subpoenas, discovery requests, and similar third-party and internal inquiries. Gathers, analyzes, organizes, and summarizes information for use by in-house and outside counsel and calendars hearings, deadlines, and key case milestones. Conducts fact-finding interviews with company personnel to collect, compile, and verify information.
• Assists with all aspects of litigation; organizes and maintains legal and evidentiary documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, and exhibits; coordinates outside counsel activities; supports witness interviews and deposition preparation; drafts and issues litigation hold orders; manages discovery collection and review; oversees document production; and assists with settlement and resolution processes.
• Prepares summaries and status reports on discovery, depositions, pending matters, and proceedings; tracks case progress; and supports counsel with reporting requirements.
• Partners with counsel to assess, draft, and prepare litigation-related documents and filings, including court pleadings, motions, responses, and government agency submissions. Assists in the defense and management of litigation and enforcement proceedings, including administrative and regulatory matters involving the company.
• Performs legal and investigative research using specialized legal applications to collect and analyze case law, legal issues, and evidentiary materials; applies findings to active litigation matters and business needs.
• Tracks developing case law, litigation trends, and procedural rules impacting litigation strategy and prepares reports, presentations, and summaries to inform counsel and business stakeholders.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• Associate or Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies from an ABA-approved program
• Minimum of three (3) years of relevant paralegal experience. Previous litigation law experience preferred
• Ability to identify complex problems and effectively partner with stakeholders to develop, evaluate, and implement solutions
• Ability to understand and maintain the highest levels of discretion and confidentiality commensurate with employment, labor and benefits matters
• Adaptable, organized and able to manage a dynamic workload, with an ability to juggle and critically analyze multiple matters and effectively prioritize work to ensure completion in an accurate, timely and efficient manner
• Strong people skills and service-orientation and an ability to work collaboratively within a team structure
• Detail-orientation, with an ability to deliver excellent work standards and demonstrate accountability for the same
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience
• Desire to learn and develop in career progression and open to feedback

This position belongs to a job progression with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level. Final position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate's experience and qualifications.
