About the Agency: The goal of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety is to make Mississippi a safer place for the state's three million residents. Our employees perform a variety of tasks, including issuing driver's licenses and firearm permits, patrolling our roads and highways, keeping drugs off the streets, providing training and certification to law enforcement agencies, conducting forensic analysis and investigations, and much more. This work involves administering oral, written, and skill driver's license tests for the Department of Public Safety to applicants seeking a Class R or Class A, B, C, and D driver's license, learner's permit, identification card, or information for motor vehicle records (MVR). Incumbents are also responsible for vision screening of applicants, renewing, and reinstating Mississippi driver's licenses. Responsible for updating records/files in the database system and administering firearm permits. The work is performed in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the administrative officials of the department. Supervision is usually received from a driver's license district supervisor, and work is reviewed based on daily activity and reports. About the Position: This job opportunity is in Driver License Services in MADISON COUNTY, MS. This is an entry-level Customer Service Representative who is accountable for assisting customers with obtaining a full range of services by providing information and applying a variety of laws, rules, policies, procedures, and program requirements.Examples of work performed include, but are not limited to, the following:Conducts visual tests to determine the sight qualifications of each applicant for a driver's license. Administers computer-automated tests for drivers seeking a permit or driver's license and ascertains if the application is in accordance with established department policies. Assists the public in issuing and renewing regular Mississippi driver's licenses. Assists the public in issuing and renewing Mississippi commercial driver's licenses, including medical records and Haz-Mat (hazardous material) endorsements.Issues identification cards and driver's licenses for U.S. and non-U.S. citizens. Issues temporary learner's permits for individuals fourteen (14) years of age. Issues regular learner's permits for individuals fifteen (15) years and older.Interprets statutes, rules, and regulations governing the Department of Public Safety. Responsible for documenting the necessary paperwork regarding the suspension and reinstatement of all driver's licenses.Submits statistical reports of examinations regarding driver's license issuance. Prepares daily reports of licenses issued and monies received. Compiles, analyzes, updates, verifies, and disseminates data from various agencies, the public, court departments, and other sources; and promotes these sources to maintain the exchange of pertinent information among other state records.Issue firearm permits, fingerprint customers, and process all relevant firearm permit documents. Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.
