Summary Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay) This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. Program Approval - award amount (up to $200 -000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. Qualifications To perform this job successfully - an individual should possess the knowledge - skills and abilities listed and meet the amount of education - training and/or work experience required. [The radiation oncologist has American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification in radiation oncology - therapeutic radiology - or equivalent certification. Additional processes of certification as defined by ABR are published at Education: MD - DO or foreign degree equivalent is required Certification State license Certification ABR. American Osteopathic Board of Radiology. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of Columbia Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training - approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education - the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) - in the list published for the year the residency - or fellowship if applicable - was completed OR (2) One year of post medical school training (internship - first year of residency - or transitional year residency) approved by ACGME or AOA followed by two years of post-training independent practice (performing under a full and unrestricted license) in the United States OR (3) Non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the United States (performing under a full and unrestricted license) performing duties related to the position they are applying for (United States fellowships would be creditable towards this requirement) - which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the Physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences Exceptions: Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs) PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e. - not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent basis PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged rather - they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision Additionally - surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs In rare and unusual circumstances - the Facility Director can submit a memo to the VISN Director through the VISN Chief Medical Officer - who may approve requests for reasonable exceptions to the residency training requirement for Physicians whose composite record of experience - accomplishments - performance - and qualifications warrant such action Proficiency in spoken and written English Additional Requirement: Works with and is supported by Radiation Oncology Service leadership Provides direct clinical and administrative oversight for mid-level practitioners - physics - dosimetry - radiation therapists and other clinical staff as assigned Responsible for providing services in an efficient - high-quality - cost-effective manner within budget allocation Works directly with Chief - Radiation Oncology Service to assist in ensuring adequate and appropriate staffing Participates in recruitment - hiring - evaluation and disciplinary actions for staff Works with the Chief - Radiation Oncology Service and other staff as appropriate - supports operations issues/problems resolution in a logical - stepwise fashion Participate in a forum in which staff identify - communicate - and resolve issues related to Radiation Oncology Service - Medical Center ancillary and support operations - and VISN-wide mandates Works with the Chief - Radiation Oncology Service and other disciplines as necessary to support - contribute to and implement policies - procedures - performance goals - strategic plans and initiatives Seeks and enhances opportunities to promote and strengthen the Medical Center's and VISN 8's goals Responsible for implementing the goal of improving care for patients within the Medical Center and VISN 8 Has basic understanding of managed care practices - including health care finance - billing - coding and documentation Knowledge - ability and willingness to use and promote the dissemination among clinical staff of current automated technology for Health Information Management Sections (HIMS) - patient data tracking - patient orders - etc Contributes to the development - maintenance and enhancement of relations with internal and external entities - including but not limited to: medical and nursing schools - local public and private health care entities - colleagues in other Patient Services and Integrated Services - such as Information Technology - Laboratory - and Business Office - labor - and VISN Participates in Radiation Oncology Service strategic planning Participates in local administrative - management - quality assurance - and other assignments - meetings or committees Provides direct patient care as a consultant in outpatient clinics and/or inpatient wards and will participate in the Radiation Oncology Service on call schedule Performance reflects and demonstrates support of the Chief - Radiation Oncology Service - Chief of Staff - Medical Center Director's - VISN Network and national goals Participates in regular peer review activities Reporting Relationship: The staff Radiation Oncologist reports to the Chief - Radiation Oncology Service - Chief of Staff - and Medical Center Director Functions locally as a team member of the Radiation Oncology Service with a regular interface with the Chief of Radiation Oncology Service Reference: For more information on this qualification standard - please visit Duties Must be a Board Certified or Board Eligible Radiation Oncologist The Radiation Oncology Service is a part of a large - complex - VA Medical Center with consults and referrals from VISN Medical Centers and outpatient clinics Responsible for all functions which fall under the scope of care of Radiation Oncology Service (ROS) These include clinical and administrative management - either directly or through delegated authority of the following: Initial patient evaluation Patient simulation - radiation treatment plan and prescription Patient management during treatment Follow-up care post treatment Consultation with other services Provide emergency care Research initiatives Resident supervision/education VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package VHA Physician Total Rewards Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Approved EDRP Authorized: Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply for incentive Pay: Competitive salary -
