Senior Tax Accountant

Compensation: Starting at $75,000+ base salary, depending on experience Whitcomb & Hess CPAs & Financial Advisors is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to join its growing team in Ashland, Ohio. For more than 40 years, Whitcomb & Hess has helped business owners, families, and individuals navigate complex financial decisions through accounting, tax, wealth management, and advisory services. This opportunity is ideal for a tax professional who enjoys building relationships, solving client challenges, and serving as a trusted advisor beyond tax season. In this role, you'll work directly with business owners and individuals while supporting a variety of tax, accounting, and advisory initiatives. You'll have the opportunity to take ownership of client relationships, provide proactive guidance, and contribute to a firm that values long-term growth, collaboration, and exceptional client service. What You'll Be Doing Prepare and review individual, partnership, corporate, and pass-through entity tax returns Provide tax planning and advisory support to business owners and individual clients Build and maintain long-term client relationships throughout the year Prepare and review financial statements Provide bookkeeping and accounting support for client engagements Research tax matters and identify opportunities for planning and improvementCommunicate complex tax concepts in a practical, client-friendly manner Partner with clients to help achieve their personal and business financial goals Collaborate with firm leadership and colleagues to deliver high-quality client service Contribute to process improvements and the continued growth of the firm's tax practice What We’re Looking For 5+ years of public accounting experience with a strong focus on tax Experience preparing individual, partnership, and corporate tax returns Strong knowledge of tax compliance and tax planning principles Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines during busy season Proficiency with tax software, accounting systems, spreadsheets, and electronic workpapers Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Nice to Have, But Not Required Active CPA license CPA candidate actively pursuing licensure Enrolled Agent (EA) designation Experience reviewing work prepared by junior staff Prior client advisory or consulting experience Advanced tax coursework or specialized tax training Who This Role Is Great For Public accountants looking to take the next step in their careers Tax professionals who enjoy both technical tax work and client interaction CPAs or CPA candidates seeking long-term growth within a respected firm Professionals interested in developing deeper advisory relationships with business owners Individuals who want to move beyond compliance-focused work and become trusted client advisors Why Join Whitcomb & Hess?
