Job Description Excel Academy is a network of five schools in Massachusetts and Rhode Island that prepares students in grades 5‑12 to succeed in high school and college. About the Role The Network Speech Language Pathologist supports students with speech and language needs across two Excel MA campuses, reporting to the network student supports team. Responsibilities include referral, learning and instruction, and compliance. Essential Functions & Responsibilities Direct Support of Student Learning: Ensure students in special education and/or 504 accommodations achieve significant academic gains toward their IEP or 504 plan goals in alignment with the school's Big Goals. Plan and provide speech and/or language therapy to students on caseload; support development in pragmatic, receptive, expressive language, language memory, articulation, etc., as dictated by learning profiles and IEPs. Ensure implementation of Speech and Language services is compliant with student IEP requirements. Provide speech and language support within content classes. Innovate intervention methods to support language development and content class progress, including assistive technology, accommodations, and explicit strategies. Collect and maintain progress monitoring data for all students. Communicate regularly with Learning Specialists and core teachers to ensure meaningful instruction. Administrative Responsibilities: Support Learning Specialists in managing the administrative aspects of special education services. Child Find Responsibilities: Monitor GLT discussions of at‑risk students, use screening tools to assess current speech/language skills, and share data with the Child Study Team/Specialists. Evaluation and IEP Process Responsibilities: Act as part of an evaluation team for new, three‑year evaluations, or articulation screens; schedule testing, coordinate with specialists, write comprehensive evaluation reports, attend evaluation meetings, and present findings. Use assessment tools (e.g., CELF, TOWL, TOPS, TONL, CASL) to determine student performance levels, eligibility for services, and to develop IEP recommendations. Contribute to required paperwork (IEPs, 504s, IEP Progress Reports) ensuring deadlines are met and information is accurate. Write IEP goals that align with service delivery, monitor progress, and report outcomes each trimester or marking period. Family Relations: Manage relationships between Excel and families regarding Speech and Language therapy; maintain regular contact, inform families of successes and setbacks, and provide resources for questions or concerns. Gather feedback from families during end‑of‑year evaluation surveys. Support for Teachers: Instruct and assist teachers in Speech and Language matters, collaborate on effective accommodations per IEPs, and ensure classroom language needs are met. Community: Serve as a productive member of the Excel community, align student support services with the school's mission and philosophy, cultivate relationships within the department, and communicate effectively about student needs and progress. Follow protocol when absent for coverage requests and participate in Friday meetings, school and departmental professional development, and family conferences. Actively ensure the mission of the school is fulfilled. Qualifications Massachusetts Speech Language Pathologist license required, or ability to acquire within the first month of employment. Preference for candidates who share intersections with students, such as fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, or Arabic at an advanced level, first‑generation college graduates, or individuals who grew up in low‑income environments.
