Boiler And Facilities Mechanic / Maintenance Technician

This role is responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing high-pressure boiler systems and related facilities equipment at an on-site cogeneration plant in Naperville, IL. You will ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of boilers, turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems that support critical industrial processes. The position combines hands-on mechanical and electrical maintenance with troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement of plant utilities.

Responsibilities

  • Operate high-pressure boilers, turbines, high-voltage generators, and auxiliary equipment at an on-site cogeneration plant that produces electricity.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance on boilers, turbines, generators, and associated plant systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Maintain and repair supporting equipment, including coolers, steam chillers, air compressors, water softeners, fire pumps, distribution equipment, monitoring equipment, and condenser water cooling towers.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control issues on plant equipment to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Make repairs and modifications to equipment to improve reliability, performance, and safety.
  • Monitor control boards and regulate equipment according to established procedures and operating parameters.
  • Interpret information from recording and indicating instruments to adjust system performance and respond to abnormal conditions.
  • Manage parts ordering and maintain inventory of spare parts and consumables needed for ongoing maintenance activities.
  • Follow all safety procedures and best practices while working with high-pressure systems, high-voltage equipment, and industrial machinery.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment changes as required by plant procedures.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance and operations team members to support plant uptime and operational goals.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall facility operations and maintenance.

Essential Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 2 years of maintenance experience in an industrial or military environment OR a technical degree or diploma in a maintenance mechanical or electrical discipline.
  • Experience with pressure steam plant operations.
  • Experience with absorption or steam chiller operations.
  • Ability to operate and maintain high-pressure boilers and related plant equipment.
  • Ability to work safely with industrial mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Capability to climb ladders, work at heights, and work in confined spaces and hot environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds as required by the role.
  • Basic proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical equipment issues.
  • Willingness and ability to work the 4:00 PM – 12:30 AM shift, Sunday through Thursday.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Stationary Engineer's License.
  • Formal vocational training in plant maintenance activities with an emphasis on industrial applications, or equivalent job experience in electricity, power distribution, industrial electrical wiring, mechanics, machine operations, general plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, and boiler operations.
  • At least 1 year of experience with PLC-based applications in an industrial environment.
  • At least 1 year of experience in plumbing, pipefitting, pump repair, and pump rebuilding.
  • Experience working with pumps, welding, bearings, electrical safety, forklifts, gears, hydraulics, valves, and rigging.
  • Experience in a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) or Lean Six Sigma environment.
  • Refrigeration certification.
  • Welding experience.
  • Snow removal experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation, equipment manuals, and schematics.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a maintenance and operations team.

Work Environment

This position is based in Naperville, IL, at an industrial facility with an on-site cogeneration plant that produces electricity. The standard schedule is 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM, Sunday through Thursday. You will work in and around high-pressure boilers, turbines, high-voltage generators, steam chillers, air compressors, water softeners, fire pumps, distribution equipment, monitoring systems, and condenser water cooling towers. The environment includes exposure to heat, noise, and industrial equipment, and the role requires climbing ladders, working at heights, entering confined spaces, and lifting up to 75 pounds. You will use tools and technologies related to industrial mechanical maintenance, electrical systems maintenance, high-pressure boiler operations, steam plant operations, and PLC and industrial controls. Appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment are required to ensure safety while working with high-pressure, high-temperature, and high-voltage systems.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $34.94 - $34.94/hr.
