Behavioral Health Technician

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) is responsible for the management of member behavior in an inpatient facility and working with the treatment team to provide a therapeutic milieu for the members. The BHT will provide counseling and crisis response services, ensure members are safe, are encouraged to engage in services, and are provided a clean environment while in the facility addressing the members' ongoing needs. The BHT contributes to the overall culture of safety. The BHT is responsible for encountering services within the Electronic Health Record.

Job Responsibilities:

• Observe members, listen to concerns, and record observations.
• Document and/or report any areas of concerns related to the members' behaviors/interactions in clinical records, and to the appropriate staff, per policy.
• Assist in admission/orientation process including obtaining vital signs, and urine/lab specimens.
• Completes comprehensive assessments and service plans.
• Provide counseling and other necessary services, including crisis planning.
• Complete a safety search of the member rooms and belongings.
• Under supervision from the medical staff, will assist in the self-administration of medication.
• Assist members with daily living activities such as eating, bathing, and grooming.
• Ensure all members are accounted for throughout shift.
• Facilitate education or recreation groups as assigned or scheduled.
• Work effectively with the member's support system, and self-help groups.
• Act as advocate and liaison for member's access to resources to support service plan goals.
• Attend staff meetings and treatment team meetings.
• May be required to transport members in company vehicles.
• May provide 24-hour crisis intervention.
• Utilize non-violent crisis intervention techniques to meet the member's risk level up to and including physical hold interventions, when allowed.
• Responsible for following any policies, procedures, and controls established by the organization, and the Privacy and Compliance Officers, regarding access to, protection of, and the use of the PHI.
• Remains current on all required training as established by the organization, and regulatory or accreditation entities.
• Perform other duties as assigned or necessary as they relate to the general nature of the position.

Qualifications:

• Education Bachelor's degree in a field related to behavioral health; or equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Experience Two (2) years of experience working the public behavioral health system; experience with SMI population preferred.

Regulatory:

• Minimum 21 years of age.
• DPS Level I fingerprint clearance (must possess upon hire and maintain throughout employment).
• CPR, First Aid, AED certification, if required (must possess upon hire and maintain throughout employment).
• Current, valid Arizona Driver's License and 39-month Motor Vehicle Report and proof of vehicle registration liability insurance to meet insurance requirements, if required.
• Initial current negative TB test result, if required (Employer provides).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Language Comprehension of the English Language, verbally and in writing, and the ability to read, write and speak English.
• Technology - Computer literacy to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Systems, Word and Outlook applications; familiarity with Electronic Health Records (EHR).

Physical Demands:

• Adequate range of body motion and mobility to work in an office setting; sitting for extended periods of time, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, balancing, occasional lifting and carrying of up to 30 pounds; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard or laptop; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
• Ability to drive a motor vehicle.
• Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
• Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
