POSITION: Special Education Teacher (Grades 1 - 4)

Putnam Elementary School seeks an innovative Special Education Teacher to help shape student-centered programs for grades 1 through 4. The ideal candidate will creatively collaborate with support staff to design engaging learning experiences that promote student growth, achievement, and real-world preparation. We are looking for an educator skilled in fostering a supportive environment where every student can reach their full potential. Putnam Elementary School offers a strong, collaborative culture of caring educators who leverage resources to nurture and challenge our students. Putnam facilitates strong district-wide alignment and support across all three schools in the district to ensure the student's educational experience prepares them for the real world.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

IEP Implementation: Design, implement, and track individualized education plans tailored to student needs and abilities.
Assessment & Data: Administer diagnostic assessments to guide differentiated instruction and measure progress.
Behavioral Support: Utilize proactive de-escalation techniques and foster a safe, supportive classroom culture focused on positive behavior.
Collaboration: Work closely with general education teachers, related service providers, paraeducators, and families.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Certification: Valid CT Certification in Comprehensive Special Education (165, 065, or 265), or eligibility for certification.
Knowledge & Skills: Strong understanding of elementary specialized instruction, de-escalation strategies, classroom management, and IEP management.
Background Check: Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and meet all district employment requirements

START DATE: Immediate Opening

RATE OF PAY & BENEFITS: Determined by contractual agreement
