Radiology Aide - Fulltime Day Shift

Radiology Aide – Job Description Stamford Health is seeking a full‑time Radiology Aide. This is a full‑time position (5 days per week, including Saturdays; 7 am – 3 pm). Responsibilities Respects and protects the patient’s rights to confidentiality and privacy and discloses information only for professional purposes that are in the patient’s best interests with full consideration of their legal rights. Provides safe patient care by verifying patient identification according to established policy and ensuring the presence of any screening forms, scripts and all laboratory reports as indicated. Brings patients to exam rooms, asks pre‑clinical questions and prior history, fax doctor offices for revised scripts and keeps track of sent scripts in a binder. Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, and other hazardous substances. Facilitates workflow for all out‑patient radiology modalities. Prints daily schedules to ensure optimal workflow. Puts together patient folders with reports and scripts. Communicates any delays to the front desk and patients. Handles all incoming calls and communication from various doctors’ offices/ICC/POP/STAT LINE. Updates radiologists with pending patients at end of day. Knows and performs specific tasks in the following systems: MEDITECH for data entry, patient tracking, scheduling; changes and adds orders for the technologists when needed; charges and departs patients after exam is completed; SYNAPSE for scanning scripts and patient breast forms, checking reports, checking imaging from outside priors; MAGVIEW to print Radiologist evening worklist, make result phone calls and document patient result calls; HOLOGIC to pull prior imaging from Synapse; SCI SOLUTIONS scheduling maximizer to look up patient scripts in scheduling viewer; HPF to look for scripts and print if necessary; uploads outside imaging and reports into our PACS system; retrieves prior images from the manager system; provides negative results to patients for same‑day breast imaging results and documents accordingly; calls patients with same‑day negative results; shows diagnostic mammograms to radiologist and communicates with technologist about any additional imaging needed; communicates negative results to patients. Assists with patient and room readiness, including patient dressing, restroom needs, and ensuring clean and stocked patient care areas (e.g., changing rooms, waiting areas, exam room). Unloads and stores laundry delivery when it arrives. Cross‑covers Out‑Patient Cat Scan and MRI when needed – duties include setting up the table for exam, setting up the tray for contrast, checking patient labs for next day exams, ensuring scripts are available for next day exams. Assists patients with changing into gowns, escorting patients to the bathroom if needed. Checks logbooks daily. Prepares packets for the next day’s procedures. Transport patients to the OR as needed. Orders forms as needed. Is knowledgeable of all radiation safety guidelines and in use of equipment and supplies necessary to prepare for each procedure (breast biopsies within Mammo, US and MRI). Provides pre‑exam care and obtains information relevant to the procedure. Prepares sterile tray and maintains sterile technique. Assures all supplies are ready for technologist and radiologist. Witnesses consent. Comforts patient throughout the procedure. Applies pressure to biopsy sites. Provides post‑care written instructions to patients. Labels biopsy samples and follows chain of custody. Maintains inventory and stocks biopsy room. Attends scheduled staff meetings, in‑service education opportunities, and participates in continuing education programs. Forms and maintains effective working relationships with peers, managers, and other managers of the health care team. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Requirements High School Graduate or equivalent required. Active BLS Certification required. One year of Radiology department experience highly preferred. Manual Skills MANUAL SKILLS: Significant portions of daily assignments involve the application of manual skills requiring motor coordination in combination with finger dexterity. Physical Effort PHYSICAL EFFORT: Significant portions of daily assignments involve prolonged standing, transporting material, equipment, patients, or lifting, moving, or carrying heavy (over 30 pounds) for intermittent periods throughout the day. Physical Environment PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT: Significant portions of daily assignments involve exposure to dirt, odors, noise, and include patient care responsibilities with exposure to human waste, body fluids and similar elements. Working surfaces may be uneven, slippery or unstable. Significant portions of daily assignments involve occupational risk such as injuries from falls or back injury sustained while assisting with moving, lifting or positioning patients, equipment, or materials.
