PRIMARY PURPOSE:


The Athletic Director assists the Executive Director of Athletics in developing and managing the athletic programs to include physical education. Provides each student with the opportunity to participate in an extracurricular activity and ensure compliance with all federal, state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and local requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Certification Requirements

• Master's Degree from an accredited university
• SBEC Principal Certification preferred
• Valid Texas Driver's License
• Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

Special Knowledge and Skills

• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form
• Strong organizational and computer skills

Experience

• Minimum of five (5) years successful leadership experience

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :

• Develop, manage and supervise developmentally appropriate athletic and P.E programs in line with the school's overall educational mission and goals accessible to all students
• Ensure that athletic fields and facilities are prepared for hosting events at Rutledge stadium
• Ensure that all athletic equipment, facilities, fields and courts are safe for daily use
• Inventory, order and distribute all equipment to ensure that all students have the resources needed for not only playing the sport but keeping them safe
• Work with campus administrators to develop district spirit and pride
• Update the athletic website pages with schedules, locations, and results of all UIL games
• Ensure compliance with student health advisory committee
• Develop goals and objectives for the district athletic program to include physical education
• Develops a coaches' handbook to make the professional staff aware of Board, UIL, TEA, and Athletic Department policies and procedures
• Informs and updates staff members of new Board, UIL, TEA, and Athletic Department policies and regulations
• Develops and puts into operation, appropriate rules and procedures governing the conduct of athletic events
• Schedules all athletic events, the assignment and payment of officials, and all workers of events
• Is prompt and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently
• Represents the District's athletic program in a positive way to other schools, the UIL, and related organizations
• Plans and conducts need assessments for growth and improvement to the athletic department and facilities
• Recommends improvements needed in all athletic facilities to the Executive Director of Athletics
• Counsels coaches on the requirements of eligibility and UIL rules
• Requisitions and maintains all equipment and supplies
• Administers the athletic insurance program
• Coordinates and cooperates with campus principals in the use of school facilities by non-school groups
• Arranges for transportation, lodging, and meals for athletes and coaches
• Understands pupil management objectives and their relationship with the athletic program
• Maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents
• Observes professional ethical standards in accordance with accepted community standards and the TEA Code of Ethics
• Provides leadership in addressing challenges facing the profession; pursues professional development activities; disseminates ideas and information to other professionals
• Keeps the community informed concerning the athletic program and its goals
• Represents the school in all athletic matters at District and state meetings
• Manage district athletic operations including directing ticket sales, employing game officials, and ensuring preparation of facilities
• Coordinate the use of all athletic facilities by non-school groups
• Plan, organize, and oversee all athletic award programs
• Plan and implement aligned instructional, athletic initiatives/programs with Executive Director of Athletics
• Keep current with Health and P.E. research and instructional strategies through professional literature
• Promote positive school-community relations by communicating effectively with staff, students, parents, and the community by projecting a positive image that enhances the district's mission
• Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of Health and P.E. curriculum to ensure adherence to state local laws, vertical and horizontal alignment, and student achievement
• Organizes and advertises all district PE/Health/Wellness programs
• Develop and administer a cost-effective budget for program needs aligned to district goals
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
• Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator's Code of Ethics
• Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job

• Office equipment - personal computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.

Environmental Factors

• Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration
• Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces, work alone, work prolonged or irregular hours.
