Apply now to join an organization where you truly make a difference.Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications:POSITION OVERVIEW:The Equipment Maintenance Supervisor will perform a variety of assignments pertaining to the operation, maintenance, service and repair, procurement, and other support functions for vehicles and equipment for the Department of Public Utilities. This role ensures vehicles and equipment are readily available to support maintenance and repair efforts essential to public water and sewer system operations. The Supervisor maintains accurate inventory of rolling stock for the department, coordinates maintenance and repair needs with the City’s Automotive Services department, and ensures vehicles and equipment remain compliant with safety and regulatory standards. This is a daily in-person position, it does not offer a remote or work-from-home option.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PUBLIC UTILITIES, OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE: Must be available to work evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, standby and overtime when required to meet operational needs. Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the City's operational status. This position may require incumbents to wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, steel toed shoes, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, or other safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk. Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employee’s supervisor based on position assigned. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to mandatory drug testing. Positive drug test results may result in counseling and/or discipline, up to and including, termination. A valid, non-restricted driver’s license is a requirement for all applicants. Driver’s license requirement is non-negotiable.Job Duties for Equipment Maintenance Supervisor include but are not limited to:Instruct all drivers and operators on preventive maintenance techniques to minimize vehicle/equipment downtime. Ensure safe operating procedures are followed, and provide training as needed.Serve as liaison between City Garage staff and departmental staff to ensure equipment is operated and maintained to the highest standards possible.Perform periodical inspections of equipment to ensure that negligence or abuse is not occurring, and that equipment is operating properly.Coordinate all major mechanical repair work with City Garage or contracted vendors to minimize downtime. Coordinate and transport vehicles to City Garage or other local vendors as needed for repairs.Ensure that first aid supplies and fire extinguishers are available in all equipment.Prepare and review monthly and yearly reports to assist in evaluating fuel use, vehicle and equipment replacement, supplies, budget, etc.; and prepare budgetary requests for new/replacement vehicles and equipment.Procure supplies and services, as needed, to support the department’s operation. Examples: Power tools, hoses, cables, etc..Investigate accidents and claims of property damage involving department vehicles and equipment and file reports.Utilization of electronic devices (PC and/or Tablet) for accessing various departmental software applications.Coordinate with Department and City Garage on acquisition of new equipment to expedite the process. Coordinate with City Garage on equipment replacement to identify equipment that has exceeded its useful life and to ensure new procurements meet the operational needs. Evaluate emerging technologies and equipment trends.Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.Preferred SkillsFleet maintenance experience in a municipal governmentFleet/equipment procurement procedures/practicesStrong organizational record keeping and documentation to support annual budget preparationExperience in maintenance and repairs of power tools, vehicles, trailers, and equipmentExperience with Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel)Proven ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers and vendorsCertification(s) in fleet maintenance and repairsCommercial Drivers License (CDL), Class A and Entry Level Drivers Training (EDLT)Additional requirements:• DMV Transcript: Yes• CDL: No• Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse: Yes, if CDL holder• CPS Check: No• Physical: Yes• Respirator: No• Psychological Screening: No• Polygraph: No• At Will: NoMinimum Requirements:Minimum Qualifications: High school or GED plus five (5) years’ experience in the field of fleet maintenance utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and associated with positions such as fleet manager, automotive or heavy equipment mechanic, mechanic shop foreman, route manager/supervisor, or equipment manager; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have a current and valid driver’s license. Special Requirements: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. May require a commercial driver’s license. This position may require that incumbents wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, steel toed shoes, safety glasses, gloves, or other designated safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk. Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employee’s supervisor based on position assigned.
