Position Accounts Receivable Staff Accountant Location New York, New York Employment Type Full-time Compensation 75k-85k Position Overview The Accounts Receivable Staff Accountant will manage the full accounts receivable cycle, ensuring accurate cash application, timely resolution of customer deductions, and effective collections support. This role will also contribute to process improvements and modernization initiatives to enhance efficiency. As workflows are streamlined, the position will expand into month-end close activities and broader accounting responsibilities. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Responsibilities Accurately post daily customer payments and remittance activity in the ERP system to maintain up-to-date financial records. Research and resolve unapplied cash, short payments, deductions, and chargebacks to ensure accurate account balances. Monitor customer aging reports and assist with collection efforts to support cash flow objectives. Serve as a liaison between Accounting, Sales, and Operations to facilitate communication and resolve issues promptly. Assist with new customer onboarding and account setup in the ERP system to ensure accurate data entry. Identify opportunities to streamline AR workflows, improve documentation, and modernize file retention processes. Prepare regular AR reporting, including customer balances, aging schedules, and dispute tracking for management review. Support monthly AR reserve and allowance analysis to ensure accurate financial reporting. Assist with month-end close by preparing journal entries and reconciling bank and general ledger accounts. Participate in annual financial statement audits and contribute to process improvement initiatives and special projects. Required Experience/Skills Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 2–5 years of accounting experience with a strong background in accounts receivable. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with ERP, billing, or finance systems. Strong communication, follow-up, and problem‑solving skills. Ability to work collaboratively across departments and manage multiple priorities effectively. Preferred Experience/Skills Experience in wholesale, retail, or consumer products industries. Familiarity with AR automation tools and process improvement methodologies. Knowledge of GAAP and month‑end close procedures. Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrated interest in leveraging technology, automation, and AI tools to improve processes. Education Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. Additional coursework or certification in accounting systems or process improvement is a plus. Continuing education in accounting standards and ERP systems preferred.
