As a member of the UVA Community Health team, individuals contribute to patient care decisions, support advanced medical technologies, and experience the satisfaction of making a difference in people's lives every day.Job TypeClassification: Non ExemptSupervises Positions: NoJob SummaryThe Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care and clinical support to oncology patients under the direction or supervision of a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) or Registered Nurse (RN), consistent with Virginia Board of Nursing regulations and UVA Health policies.CompetenciesClinical Patient Care:Obtain and document vital signs, focused assessments, and symptom screening in Epic.Prepare patients for provider visits, procedures, and treatments.Perform peripheral and port lab drawsRecognize, document, and escalate abnormal findings to RN/provider.Assist with infusion workflows and patient flow.Perform venipuncture and maintain peripheral IV access per competency.Administer approved medications per scope and UVA policy.Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection per policyPatient Experience & Care CoordinationProvide compassionate, patient-centered supportReinforce treatment plans and patient educationTeamworkWilling to share responsibilities, support their teammates, and work together to achieve common goals.Organizes and prioritizes daily work assignments to support patient needs, the interdisciplinary team, and operational efficiency.Demonstrates teamwork in the delivery of patient care.Recognizes the importance of time sensitive issues.Technical CompetenceUses knowledge and skills acquired through training and validationProvides clinical support under the supervision of a licensed practitioner.Documents and capture charges for clinical support services rendered during the visit.Performs administrative support responsibilities as directed by a Clinic Leader.QualificationsEducation: Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.Experience:Licensure: Current Virginia LPN license. BLS certification (AHA).Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Ability to multitask and prioritize quickly. Ability to communicate verbally and in written formAdditional Skills/Requirements Preferred:Oncology or infusion experience.Chemotherapy/biotherapy competency validation.Epic experienceThe incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.Physical Demand Code: Medium to Heavy Physical Demand: The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment. This job description may not include all assigned dutiesThe base compensation range for this role is $23.00 - $34.37 hourly.Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education. Please note that the pay range does not include any applicable incentive compensation programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, and other incentives that may be available for those in eligible positions.
