Pharmacy Technician - Prior Authorization

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM CST

Pay Rate: $19.99-$21.44/hour

Work Location: Remote; no onsite requirement

Position Summary

This is a high-volume inbound call position supporting members, providers, and other healthcare professionals through the criteria-based prior authorization process. The Pharmacy Technician will provide professional and courteous assistance, review clinical information for completeness, maintain accurate documentation, and ensure timely recording of approvals and denials.

Clinical questions, judgment calls, and complex inquiries will be escalated to the pharmacist for further evaluation.

Key Responsibilities

-Handle approximately 60-100 inbound calls per day, with volume averaging about 8 calls per hour and fluctuating based on business needs.

-Provide professional, courteous, and effective customer service to members, providers, and healthcare professionals.

-Guide callers through the criteria-based prior authorization process.

Review clinical documentation for completeness and eligibility using established criteria.

-Accurately document approvals, denials, call activity, and case information in a timely manner.

-Navigate multiple computer systems while maintaining accuracy and productivity.

-Escalate clinical questions, judgment calls, and complex inquiries to the pharmacist.

-Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, established procedures, and internal protocols.

-Make outbound calls as needed.

Required Qualifications

-Minimum of 1 year of Pharmacy Technician experience, preferably in an administrative support or call center environment.

-Minimum of 1 year of high-volume customer service or call center experience; healthcare experience is preferred.

-Pharmacy Technician certification or state licensure is preferred but not required.

-Candidates must be eligible for applicable state registration, certification, or licensure requirements.

-Verifiable high school diploma or GED required.

-Strong computer skills, including the ability to work with word-processing and spreadsheet applications.

-Ability to navigate multiple systems simultaneously.

-Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

-Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.

-Comfortable working in a structured, high-volume, metric-driven environment.

Preferred Candidate Profile

-1+ year of Pharmacy Technician experience.

-1+ year of high-volume healthcare customer service or call center experience.

-Knowledge of pharmacy terminology, medication processes, and prior authorization workflows.

-Strong communication and customer service skills.

-Ability to accurately document information while handling a high volume of calls.

-Reliable attendance and commitment throughout the mandatory training period.

-Comfortable working on a computer for the duration of the workday.
