ICC Special Inspector / Construction Materials Testing Technician 

Location: Greater San Antonio Area, TX 
Job type: Full-time 
Pay: $28–$40 per hour, based on experience and certifications 
Sign-on bonus: Up to $5,000 for qualified candidates 
Overtime: Available based on project needs 

B2Z Engineering is hiring an experienced ICC Special Inspector / Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technician to support projects throughout the Greater San Antonio area. This role is a good fit for someone who can work independently in the field, produce accurate reports, and communicate professionally with contractors, engineers, and clients. 

Candidates with both ICC Soils Special Inspector and ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector certifications will receive strong preference. ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I certification is also highly valued. 

What You’ll Do 

• Perform field testing of soils, compacted fill, and concrete. 
• Conduct special inspections within your certifications, including soils and reinforced concrete inspections. 
• Review plans, specifications, and testing requirements before field assignments. 
• Document observations, test results, and potential deficiencies in accurate, timely electronic reports. 
• Communicate findings promptly to project managers, engineers, contractors, and client representatives. 
• Maintain assigned testing equipment and follow calibration and safety procedures. 
• Support other field or laboratory testing as project needs require. 

Qualifications 

• Previous construction materials testing or special inspection experience. 
• High school diploma or equivalent. 
• Ability to read construction plans and specifications. 
• Strong field judgment, written documentation, and professional communication skills. 
• Valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. 
• Ability to work outdoors, handle testing equipment safely, and travel to project sites throughout the Greater San Antonio area. 
• Availability for early starts, extended shifts, and occasional nights or weekends based on construction schedules. 

Preferred Certifications 

Highest preference will be given to candidates holding: 

• ICC Soils Special Inspector 

• ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector 

• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I 

Candidates with both ICC Soils and ICC Reinforced Concrete certifications are strongly encouraged to apply. 

Additional certifications that are considered a plus include: 

• ICC Structural Masonry Special Inspector 

• ICC Structural Steel and Bolting Special Inspector 

• ICC Structural Welding Special Inspector 

• ICC Spray Applied Fireproofing Special Inspector 

• ICC Firestopping certification 

• NICET Construction Materials Testing certifications 

• TxDOT materials testing certifications 

• Nuclear Density Gauge certification 

• AWS or other applicable inspection certifications
