Noncredit Painting for Older Adults Instructor Position Title : Noncredit Painting for Older Adults Instructor Position Type : Percentage Employee – Not to exceed 60% Assignment : Part‑time, as‑needed basis. Salary : Salary Range AP 7130 Shift Differential : None FLSA Status : Non‑Exempt Location : Main Campus, High School partners Department : Continuing Education/Contract Education Open Date : 10/08/2025 Closing Date : 10/28/2026 Basic Function / Definition Recruitment to fill part‑time assignments on an as‑needed basis. Departments or divisions refer to the pool of applicants on file to fill assignments as needed. The instructor teaches courses as assigned during day or evening, weekdays or weekends, or online, and commits to professional excellence and continuous growth in teaching. Other professional responsibilities and activities are normally expected of community college faculty as described by Board Policies and the California Education Code. Responsibilities - Teach non‑credit painting courses to older adults at the assigned times and locations. - Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments aligned with course objectives. - Maintain a supportive learning environment, employ strategies appropriate for older adult learners, and manage classroom behavior. - Participate in faculty meetings, professional development activities, and required reporting or documentation. Knowledge and Abilities - Understanding of adult learning principles, especially with older adult populations. - Knowledge of painting techniques and safety procedures. - Ability to communicate clearly, provide constructive feedback, and adapt instruction to diverse skill levels. Minimum Qualifications / Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught, and either: (A) 30 hours or two semester units of coursework in understanding the needs of older adults, earned at an accredited institution or approved by the district (may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment); OR (B) One year of professional experience working with older adults. OR an Associate degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught; two years of occupational experience related to the subject; 60 hours or four semester units of coursework in understanding the needs of older adults, completed at an accredited institution or approved by the district (may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment). Any degree from a country other than the United States must be evaluated by an Evaluation Service prior to the closing date. Desired Qualifications (optional): Additional certification in teaching or adult education. Experience in community or continuing education settings. Working Conditions Environments include studio space, small classrooms, and online platforms. Work may involve handling paint materials, safety protocols, and coordinating with students of various abilities.
