Ophthalmologist Retinal Specialist

Job Summary:

The Retinal Ophthalmologist will provide specialized ophthalmology services at the Lawton Indian Hospital, focusing on retinal consultation, treatment, and follow-up care. This role involves performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as intravitreal injections and laser treatments, primarily for patients with diabetic retinopathy and other retinal disorders. The physician will collaborate closely with optometrists and hospital staff to ensure comprehensive, coordinated patient care while adhering to clinical standards and regulatory guidelines. Responsibilities:

• Conduct retinal consultation and treatment clinics at least once per month, with a minimum of 4 hours and up to 16 hours monthly as needed.
• Perform intravitreal injections, laser treatments, pre- and post-treatment evaluations, and other ophthalmological procedures.
• Manage treatment plans for patients, particularly those with diabetic retinopathy, following American Academy of Ophthalmology guidelines.
• Coordinate care and integrate services with optometrists and Lawton Indian Hospital medical staff.
• Document all patient encounters in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system within 24 hours of clinic completion.
• Participate in quality assurance activities including chart reviews and discussions with clinical leadership.
• Complete all required administrative paperwork on the day of patient encounters, including electronic consults, referrals, and risk management reviews.
• Engage in pre-clinic preparation and post-clinic activities alongside hospital professionals to ensure efficient care delivery.
• Adhere to infection control, Joint Commission, and CDC guidelines relevant to clinical practice.
• Communicate any issues impacting patient care to the Optometrist or Clinical Director promptly.
• Complete an initial two-day facility orientation prior to starting clinical duties.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Medical degree with board certification or eligibility in Ophthalmology, specializing in retinal diseases.
• Proficiency in performing intravitreal injections, laser treatments, and other retinal procedures.
• Experience with diabetic retinopathy treatment adhering to current clinical guidelines.
• Ability to document clinical encounters accurately and timely in an electronic health record system.
• Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams including optometrists and hospital staff.
• Completion of required facility orientation before beginning work.
• Availability to provide services for a minimum of 4 hours per month up to 16 hours as needed.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Previous experience working in a hospital or clinic setting serving Native American populations.
• Familiarity with Joint Commission standards and infection control guidelines.
• Experience with electronic medical record systems in hospital environments.

Special Considerations:

• Clinic services must be scheduled during Lawton Indian Hospital operating hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
• Clinic dates are scheduled four months in advance and must be rescheduled within 30 days if canceled due to provider unavailability.
• Contractor and any support staff must complete orientation prior to beginning work.
• Contractor will not bill patients or third parties directly; all billing is managed by the hospital.
• Compliance with hospital policies and coordination with hospital staff is mandatory.

Scheduling:

• Services are provided on a monthly basis with a minimum commitment of 4 hours per month and up to 16 hours per month as needed.
• Clinic sessions are scheduled in advance in coordination with hospital needs and provider availability.
• Work occurs during regular hospital hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
