Job Summary

The Medication Aide administers medication to residents in a safe and efficient manner, EXCEPT for intramuscular, intradermal, intravenous, and medications given via nasogastric or gastric tube. The role also performs assigned treatments, documents, charts, and reports relevant observations as established by guidelines, regulations, and facility policies and procedures. Additionally, the aide helps residents with activities of daily living such as hygiene, toileting, feeding, moving safely to activities or functions, and caring for the resident’s environment, including laundry and housekeeping. The aide must be sensitive to each resident’s needs and desires and strive to improve and enrich their lives.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Adheres to and conveys a philosophy that supports the dignity, privacy, independence, choice, and individuality of residents
• Adheres to HIPAA privacy policies and procedures
• Maintains confidentiality of all information pertaining to clients, families and employees
• Completes necessary care documentation (written and/or electronic) timely and accurately
• Helps residents with all personal care functions as needed
• Maintains a professional appearance at all times
• Dispenses medications under the direction of a licensed nurse according to established procedures
• Supervises resident medications under the direction of the service plan according to established procedures and regulations
• Ensures that required documentation is complete and is in compliance with regulations and standards
• Provides redirection, monitoring and observation that are integral to a personal care plan
• Provides redirection and intervention for behavior, including observation and monitoring
• Provides incidental household services that are integral to a personal care plan
• Observes clients, reports observations and documents care performed

Qualifications & Physical Requirements

• Demonstrates the ability to make appropriate professional judgments
• Ability to handle multiple tasks
• Capable of providing covered care services according to the client’s care plan and reporting changes in the client’s condition to the licensed supervising Resident Care Director
• Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills
• Occasional use of hands, wrists and fingers and lifting or moving up to 75 lbs may be required
• Movements such as stooping, crouching, bending, kneeling, climbing and reaching are occasionally required
• Spends a majority of the workday standing and walking, with occasional sitting
• Work environment is moderate in noise and/or distractions
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision
• Ability to provide covered PCA services according to the person’s PCA Care Plan
• Ability to operate a motorized vehicle and have reliable transportation for work in the community

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Must be at least 18 years old
• At least six months experience in an assisted living community preferred
• United States Citizenship or evidence of a valid Alien Work Permit
• Certified as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) in this state
• Certified as a Registered Medication Aide in this state
