Environmental Specialist

Coordinate and provide environmental technical support to field operations, engineering, & regulatory personnel This position is a field-based position that manages environmental compliance and requires strong communication skills between the Houston office and field operations staff Perform job functions independently and able to manage task assignment and completion with limited supervision Essential Job Responsibilities: Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, permits, authorizations, and agreements. Provide knowledge and expertise across all environmental media and programs, including Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and applicable waste management requirements. Participate in the project planning and development through all stages to facilitate communication of project impacts between all stakeholders. Manages consultants as required in the development of remediation and soil/groundwater cleanup projects Responds to active releases and supports spill response and cleanup efforts Coordinates routine compliance inspections with operations for air permits and participates in external audits as required Serves as a member of the company's emergency response team and be involved in the spill management program. Investigates accidents to ascertain causes for use in recommending preventive safety measures, corrective actions, and developing safety program. Adheres to established work schedule, attendance standards and is punctual to work and meetings. Perform other duties as assigned. Other Job Responsibilities: Develop tools and templates to manage the collection of environmental compliance information Ability to be available 24hrs per day (on call questions, emergencies, etc) Other duties as assigned by management Qualifications: 3+ years related work experience in an environmental specialist/compliance role is typical for this position, but years in the position is not as relevant as the application of knowledge and experience Preferred: Oil & Gas, Petro Chemical, or midstream experience Experience in use and function of office equipment including computers and applicable software Experience interacting, advising, negotiating, and communicating effectively Experience with soil and groundwater sampling techniques and protocols Knowledge of: state and federal environmental regulations and standards and their applicability to operations Ability to: evaluate, research, and interpret governmental regulations, equipment performance manuals, regulatory agency guidance and instructions, reports, correspondence, and company policies and procedures Ability to: apply math, algebraic formulas, calculus, and statistics Ability to: communicate and/or exchange information Ability to: communicate effectively through the development of written communication that applies fundamental technical writing skills Ability to: operate tools and equipment required Ability to: collect environmental field samples (air, water, and waste) for analysis Education Requirements: Bachelor's Degree or higher in an environmental science/engineering and/or related technical discipline or equivalent combination of formal education and job-related experience.
