Associate System Operator II

We are hiring for either an Associate System Operator II or an Associate System Operator I based on candidates' qualifications. Responsible for the safe, reliable, stable, and economic round-the-clock operation of OG&E's electric transmission system as well as maintaining compliance with the various regulatory obligations imposed upon this role by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and the Southwest Power Pool (SPP). Has the responsibility and authority to implement real-time actions to ensure the stable and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System.

Level of responsibility includes performing responsibilities with standardized processes, working under general supervision, resolving routine questions and problems using basic principles of field, and referring the more complex issues to higher levels. Generally follows established procedures to accomplish requirements of job with some latitude for deviation.

Essential functions include considering the effect of the system under their jurisdiction on the operation of the remainder of the system, monitoring the system by SCADA, preparing for System Operator Staff position through on-the-job training, developing and maintaining advanced knowledge of operating instructions and procedures, assisting the System Operator in transmission system troubleshooting, reporting outages to the appropriate Power Delivery offices, providing backup coverage for System Operators, maintaining daily operators' log, and all other duties as assigned.

Requirements for Level II include obtaining NERC Certification within 9 months of job start date, completing System Operator training within 36 months from job start date, and having a Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree in a related technical field with 1 year related utility technical work experience. Other qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in an unrelated field with 2 years related utility technical work experience, or a Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree in a related technical field with 1 year related utility experience, or a High School Diploma/GED with 3 years Journey level experience in Substation Operations, or 4 years Specialized military experience in a related technical field.

Working conditions may require working non-standard work schedules, overtime, and occasional travel. Special safety requirements include the operation, maintenance or oversight of critical services and infrastructure including but not limited to, electric utilities, power generation or distribution.

Knowledge, skills and abilities include knowledge of basic electrical concepts, regulatory reporting and compliance requirements, electrical transmission, electrical distribution systems, power generation, relay & control, operating SCADA and other control Center computer programs, operating practices, operating procedures, approved work methods, switching charts, maps, one-line diagrams, substation meters and recording charts, using a personal computer with MS Office Suite applications, handling several tasks simultaneously, communicating effectively, working efficiently and effectively during emergency and heavy workload conditions, and working rotating shifts of duty.

Licenses and certifications include completion of Company Certified Switchman training and a valid Driver's License.

Health and safety requirements include a pre-employment drug screen and pre-employment physical. This position is classified as a Safety-Sensitive Job under state law.

Salary range: $84,000 - $104,000
