CDC are working with a fast growing CDMO committed to delivering high-quality biologics manufacturing solutions to partners across the global biopharma landscape. They support clients from early development through commercial supply, ADCs and next-generation bioconjugates.

Role Overview

We are looking for a Scientist, Bioconjugation to join the Process Development team. This is a hands on technical role at the heart of their ADC and bioconjugate development offering. You will design and execute conjugation experiments, develop and optimise processes for client programmes, and work cross-functionally to ensure seamless tech transfer into GMP manufacturing. The ideal candidate brings deep practical experience in bioconjugation chemistry, a strong scientific mindset, and the pace and adaptability that thrives in a CDMO environment.

Responsibilities:

• Design, execute, and optimise bioconjugation processes including site-specific and lysine/cysteine-based conjugation strategies for ADCs and related modalities
• Develop linker-payload attachment chemistries, including maleimide, NHS ester, oxime, and click chemistry approaches
• Apply analytical techniques including HIC-HPLC, SEC-HPLC, LC-MS, UV-Vis, and SDS-PAGE to characterise conjugation products
• Generate and interpret data with rigour; identify root causes of process deviations and propose corrective actions
• Execute experimental work in alignment with client timelines, technical requirements, and quality expectations
• Support tech transfer activities for bioconjugation processes moving into GMP manufacturing
• Participate in technical discussions with clients as required
• Maintain detailed, accurate laboratory notebooks and records in compliance with GxP documentation standards
• Write SOPs, batch records, experimental protocols, and development reports
• Work closely with upstream (cell culture / fermentation), downstream (purification), analytical, and QA teams

Key Requirements:

• BSc, MSc, or PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, or a closely related discipline
• Hands-on experience in bioconjugation chemistry (including ADC synthesis, linker chemistry, or protein-small molecule conjugation from an industry or advanced academic setting)
• Practical knowledge of conjugation characterisation techniques: HIC, SEC, LC-MS, UV-Vis
• Strong scientific writing skills; ability to produce clear, client-ready technical documentation
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple experiments simultaneously, and deliver against timelines in a fast-paced environment
• Experience in a CDMO, CRO, or contract manufacturing environment
• Familiarity with site-specific conjugation technologies (e.g. engineered cysteines, unnatural amino acids, enzymatic conjugation)
• Exposure to GMP manufacturing environments or GMP-aligned development
• Experience handling cytotoxic payloads in a containment-controlled setting
• Knowledge of ADC regulatory requirements and ICH guidelines relevant to bioconjugates
