Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Services Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 1 Day and 1 Night needed - 3x12 possible weekends - No exceptions Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2+ years of emergency nursing experience required License: Client RN License Certifications: ACLS, BLS, and PALS required Must-Have: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required Description: The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible and accountable for prescribing and coordinating all nursing care as defined by the Nursing Practice Act. Interventions are carried out in collaboration with care providers and other members of the healthcare team in response to patient and family needs. The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for care delivery and renders services to patients ranging from newborn to adult. Duties and responsibilities include providing nursing care to all needing care in accordance with professional nursing standards and practices. Assessment involves assessing patients' physical, social, behavioral, and mental status through direct observation, interview, and medical record review. This includes assessment from history and data collection obtained from the patient and/or care providers. The nurse determines mobility, sensory deficits, and skin condition, adjusting the plan of care as appropriate. Documentation of a nursing assessment includes psychosocial, environmental factors, educational level, and needs. The nurse obtains and reviews available data and any data collected by other members of the health team. Identification of medical problems resulting from psychological or mental illness and use of medications is essential. The nurse communicates findings with other members of the health team, including social workers, case managers, therapists, and physicians. Planning includes identifying and addressing needs for admission based on acute medical/surgical diagnoses and presenting physical/psychological symptoms. The nurse identifies and addresses patient educational and learning needs. Appropriate referrals to other disciplines are made and documented. Physical demands involve standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and bending. May include some repetitive motions. Required skills include management of clinical skills in the provision of nursing care and management of the patient, including identification of symptoms, management of disease entities, and treatment modalities. Administration of medications is a key component. Intervention in medical/surgical and critical emergencies using crisis intervention is necessary. Critical thinking is utilized in the assessment of patients and in interventions. Infection control procedures and protocols are to be followed. The nurse provides for the psychosocial needs of all critically ill patients. Health teaching and medication instructions to patients and next of kin are provided. All procedures must be performed based on established standards of care. Competency in performing all procedures within the scope of practice is essential. The nurse investigates and communicates all required information regarding unusual occurrences and patient care incidents. Acting as a patient advocate is crucial. Evaluation involves revising the patient's plan of care based on evaluation of interventions and expected outcomes in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team. Effective communication in English, both verbally and in writing, is required.
