Position SummaryTo conduct water fitness classes.Essential FunctionsLead water fitness classes following YMCA or USWFA Instructor Guidelines, Protocols, and Visions of ExcellenceEnforce aquatic rules and policiesPrepare progressive exercise plans for program participantsRecord and maintain attendance records dailySet up facility or equipment, store equipment, and secure facility and equipment upon completion of each classAct as a Primary Responder in case of injury, accident, or illness in pool area and provide backup to lifeguards as needed in emergencies and crowd control. Report injuries and complete required formsSupport and follow YMCA policies and decisions and answer member questions about the YMCA and its programs and fitness related questionsAttend staff meetingsLearn and teach the mission of the YMCA which is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all, including the four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibilityPlans and implements a program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCACoordinates activities which are culturally relevant and developmentally appropriateFollows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency proceduresEducation, Training and ExperienceAt least one year experience leading fitness classesGeneral knowledge of exercise training and leadership, including basic anatomy, physiology, and exercise principlesPhysically fit in order to demonstrate all phases of aerobic exercises.Mentally alert to recognize potential hazards and accidents.Able to hear and follow the beat of the music and have visual ability to observe class participants during workout.Able to vocalize cues and use equipment properly.Current YMCA or Red Cross LifeguardCurrent YMCA or USWFA Water Fitness Instructor CertificationCurrent CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, O2 and First Aid certificationsYMCA COMPETENCIES (LEADER):Mission and Community Oriented: Accepts and demonstrates YMCA values.
