Sanitation Division Supervisor

This is specialized technical and supervisory work in the City's Sanitation Division. The employee is responsible for supporting the Assistant Director and Director in directing and supervising operations such as scheduling and supervising technical labor, administrative and clerical staff to ensure the enhanced scope of work is carried out in an efficient and effective manner.

Illustrative examples of essential duties include:

• Overseeing planning, training, directing and evaluating the work of subordinates assigned to the areas identified.
• Assisting in developing and being responsible for the execution of the Division's operations schedule.
• Assurance of good customer relations with the public through delivery of service, resolution of complaints, and prompt handling of special requests.
• Coordinating assignments with other departments to correct issues that are identified throughout the City.
• Conducting field inspections and reviewing reports of activities to determine present effectiveness and efficiency of operation using best management practices to develop more effective and efficient procedures and programs.
• Assisting in administering the provisions of Federal, State and local laws, rules, procedures, guidelines and applicable collective bargaining agreements in matters of performance management, coaching, development and disciplinary action.
• Assisting in planning and recommending the purchase of new equipment; ensuring adherence to the preventive maintenance and safety programs and keeping informed of the latest developments in waste collection technology.
• Investigating work related accidents and submitting injury reports, conferring with the City's Safety Officer to promote a safe working environment.
• Assisting in Division's budget preparations and monitoring process.
• Attending meetings with community action, business groups and special events coordinators.
• Conferring with governmental agency representatives and contractors on related matters.
• Assisting in the preparation of verbal and written reports on departmental operations.

Minimum requirements include:

• Five (5) years experience in general verifiable, progressively responsible municipal sanitation and/or maintenance operation, including three (3) years experience in a supervisory capacity.
• Associate degree or higher preferred.
• Strong customer service background.
• Proven track record of progressive supervisory positions with the ability to be flexible and innovative.

Physical requirements include:

• Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact.
• Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, word processors, calculator, copier and fax machine.
• No significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying bending, kneeling, some crawling, reaching, handling, sitting, pushing and pulling.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press the general public and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation, gender identity or sexual orientation.
• Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies. Strong understanding of ethical behavior is required.
• Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
• Performs related work as required.
• Reports to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the City of Miami Beach.

For all technical, professional, supervisory and managerial positions:

• Ability to develop innovative and creative solutions to issues consistent with the City's strategic plan.
