As an Occupational Therapist, you will provide occupational therapy services to address the functional needs of an individual as they relate to sensory, motor, postural or emotional development, adaptive behavior and play and the performance of self‑help skills. These services are designed to improve, restore, or maintain the individual's functional ability to perform tasks in educational settings. In an educational setting, Occupational therapy services are provided to enable identified special education students ages 3‑21 to benefit from special education or regular education in the least restrictive environment. How You Will Impact Education Conduct comprehensive evaluations to identify the educationally relevant needs of an individual child. Based on the results of the evaluation, recommend goals, activities, or supports to be incorporated in the Individual Education Program (IEP). Conduct a variety of assessments including environmental assessments, assistive technology assessments, and sensory processing assessments. Design treatment plans based on the results of assessments, observations, and consultations; recommend/implement various alternative curricula to address individual needs; implement occupational therapy services and monitor progress as described in the IEP. Demonstrate skills to deliver a continuum of services including indirect, consultative, direct, individual and group therapy. Work collaboratively with the classroom teacher to incorporate therapeutic activities into the natural setting that will enhance and maintain therapy goals throughout the school day. Provide classroom and school‑wide consultation to teachers and administrators in response to individual student needs. Abide by safety regulations, assurances and acceptable technology use practices as identified by the district. Work constructively and collaboratively with school personnel, parents, students, and outside agencies; communicate effectively and disseminate information clearly to diverse audiences. Collect and summarize data to document student performance (weekly, monthly, and grading period). Utilize technology required for professional practice including electronic mail, presentation applications, and database management. Adhere to federal, state, and local policies including due process guidelines. Maintain accepted professional and ethical standards in assessment, consultation, and general professional practice. Comply with Medicaid regulations and billing procedures including maintaining accurate documentation, paperwork and submitting paperwork within required timelines. Engage in professional growth activities including maintenance of continuing education units required for licensure and attendance and participation in mandatory district‑sponsored professional development opportunities. Comply with professional expectations in the school environment including professional etiquette, appropriate dress, scheduled work hours, and completion of required paperwork documentation; perform other related duties as required. Participate in school functions such as staff meetings. Required Qualifications And Skills Ability to communicate complex information, individually and in groups, to people from a wide variety of age, education and ethnic backgrounds. Strong track record for analyzing complex problems/issues, identifying patterns and recommending creative solutions. Ability to work and interact with individuals at all levels of the organization. Establish excellent interpersonal skills between all constituents: being courteous, professional, and helpful; oral, written, interpersonal (active listening), negotiating and influencing. Proactive and takes initiative. Insists on providing highest level of quality. Must be customer focused both internally with staff and externally with parents and students. Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple priorities. Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility. Ability to consistently be at work, be on time, follow instructions, respond to management direction and solicit feedback to improve performance. Computer basics – Windows (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); Student Information System (SIS). Good knowledge of company and school policies and procedures. Detailed knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements for K‑12 schools and charter school law preferred. Job Requirements Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution. Valid license as an Occupational Therapist by the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation, and experience in pediatrics. Knowledge of methods of assessment, systematic processes to collect data, translate assessment results into empirically based decisions about service delivery and evaluate outcomes of services. Knowledge of learning processes, appropriate instructional interventions to meet students' needs, and the ability to implement and assess their effectiveness. Knowledge of the South Carolina Seed Document. Knowledge of behavioral mental health, collaborative and/or consultation models and methods and their application. Aptitude to learn new programs and to operate efficiently in a computerized environment. Commitment to school and company values. Alternatives to the above requirements as CSUSA may find appropriate and acceptable. May perform other duties assigned. Work Environment While performing the responsibilities of this position, the work environment characteristics listed below are representative of the environment the employee will encounter. Responsibilities Usual office and/or school working conditions. May be noisy during high student traffic. Physical Demands Not physically demanding but requires attention to detail and intense concentration. The emotional needs of students and their families may be demanding. Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
