Job Description MarBorg Recovery Job Description JOB TITLE: Safety Coordinator LOCATION: MRF Tajiguas Landfill FLSA EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt PREPARED DATE: August 2026 REPORTS TO: Operations Manager DIRECT REPORTS: None POSITION SUMMARY: This position implements, and monitors CalOSHA & HR compliance initiatives, updates safety protocols and manuals, and risk mitigation initiatives to promote a safe, equitable, and legally compliant workplace. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following: Champions Safety. Take an active role prioritizing safety for yourself and others to ensure zero accidents and are in total compliance with all policies and procedures.Develop, train, and enforce all established safety procedures and protocols.Manages MRF safety supplies (PPE).Monitor and promote compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations (e.g., FLSA, ADA, EEO, OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and state specific wage and hour requirements).Maintain awareness of regulatory changes and participate in updating policies, procedures, forms, and other documents.Coordinate workplace safety programs (I.e. Prescription Safety Glasses, Safety Shoes.Maintain and update the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP), and Emergency Response Plan (ERP).Leads and takes notes during Safety Meetings and ensures follow-up on next step actions.Oversight of general site/facility cleanliness and ensures daily housekeeping plan is followed in assigned areas and that all areas are cleaned effectively.Inspects all working areas and equipment regularly to identify opportunities for improving the safety of employees.Prepare and maintain all safety records including, accident and near-miss investigations, OSHA logs, permits, safety audits and walk-through reports and other and presses for safety improvements in equipment and working conditions and practices.Investigate Accidents. Participate in investigations of accidents and near misses and the identification of root causes and corrective actions. Maintain a database of accurate injury and safety , plans, and implements programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses.Develops accident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into operational policies.Manages and coordinates safety activities, through subordinate supervisory personnel, to ensure implementation of safety activities.Manage the onboarding experience to ensure new employees are successfully integrated into the company.Act as a resource for employees by answering HR-related questions and providing guidance on company policies and procedures.Support employee relations by assisting managers with coaching conversations, documentation, and workplace concerns.Administer benefits, leave of absence processes, and other employee lifecycle activities in partnership with HR leadership.Responsible for coordinating the medical management of Workers Compensation cases, acquiring return-to-work documentation and coordinating modified duty the Company with governmental agencies and other organizations concerted with public and employee safety.Conduct employee training sessions on subjects such as hazardous material handling, employee orientation, training on proper use of equipment, and company polices.Comply with regulations while performing work assignments, including but not limited to: Safety, Human Resources, Federal, State and local statutes. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum five (5) years of experience in workplace safety coordination, workers compensation and HR interpreting and applying OSHA/Cal/OSHA, FLSA, ADA, FMLA, or other state, federal labor laws required.Problem-Solving Skills. Must possess excellent hazard recognition skills, working with different partners to address the challenges and problems ensuring accurate, safe, and efficient solutions.Ability to teach supervisors, managers and other leaders about health and safety standards.Presenting safety training sessions to personnel.Must be able to read and speak well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, instructions, signals, and safety training.Prefer familiarity with Baling Equipment - Safety Requirements for Installation, Maintenance, and be able to regularly work near or around high-powered magnets, which prohibits people with pacemakers from being near or around them.Ability to lift up to 50 lb. unassisted at times. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree, or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Position requires excellent verbal and writes English communication skills including ability to read, comprehend, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Bilingual. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. CERTIFICATIONS: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred. PHR, or SHRM-CP certification preferred but not required.
