Associate Scientist I Pay: $39 - $42 per hour Duration: 2 Years Occasional / rotating weekend work required - work will be VERY minimal Notes 0-3 years of experience - biological science or engineering group Design the manufacturing process for injectabile drugs like antibodies - the cells they grow are factories for these antibodies Work very small scale of shake flasks - 500L bioreactors Typically CHO cells - they will be "feeding" the cells, they hydrate the powder, adjust pH - this is more of a duty in making the food - will make a couple of liters up to couple 100 liters Bacterial cell culture is fine - would say mammalian is the hire, but bacteria is good here. RnD lab overall Has about 6 projects going on + tech dev work going on this person may get into this and help with developing the process This is a very much shared space, share the equipment, make sure they get along with others, sharing of space and equipment BSL-1 - low risk - mainly CHO - some other hamster, they check for mycoplasma, risk to humans is very low, wearing PPE. Pipettes - some work in bio safety cabinets Programming skills would be nice to have They have an AMBR 250 - so there is a robot arm that can sample and add liquids - this does require some programming - understanding of basics of programming would be a plus MS is overqualified Doesn't need upstream experience - good aseptic techniques are needed - very important skill IV process - just 1 round of interviews - may do it onsite GMP a bonus Some weekend work is required - rotating schedule of who comes in on the weekend. Very minimal hours maybe a couple of hours here and there. Job Summary The Associate Scientist I will be a member of the CMC Biologics Cell Culture Development group, responsible for providing support for the development of Client biologics and bioprocess innovation projects, performing laboratory maintenance, and executing tasks to support departmental and project goals. The candidate should have experience with standard cell culture, biochemistry, and molecular biology techniques and is expected to clearly communicate scientific rationale, methodology and results in written and oral formats. Key Responsibilities Follow established experimental protocols and assess results with supervision Maintain a "can-do" attitude to complete innovative projects while being flexible in work priorities based on business needs Perform routine tasks such as media/buffer preparation, thawing of cryopreserved cells, cell culture passaging, aseptic flask sampling, bioreactor sampling, and cell banking to support ongoing projects Take routine analytical measurements for cell growth, culture gas-content, pH, osmolality, nutrient and metabolite measurements and HPLC analysis of antibody titers Prepare bench top bioreactors and supporting equipment for sterile operation Maintain instrumentation, consumables inventory and general cleanliness of a developmental lab to create a safe, effective and efficient scientific working environment Display effective organization, verbal and written communication skills for effective explanation of experimental results, and adherence to good documentation practices Weekend work to support bioreactor and other vessel sampling and feeding, as required Qualifications Basic BS in Biological Sciences or Chemical/Biochemical Engineering or related field with 0-3 years of experience Experience with aseptic technique, preferably mammalian cell culture Hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation (Vi-Cell, BGA, HPLC and Cedex Bio) and cell culture equipment (biosafety cabinet, incubators, and microscopes) Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Preferred Experience in bioreactor operation and cell culture media preparation Experience in single use cell culture tools employed in bioprocess development, including but not limited to deep well plates, shake flasks, ambr250 bioreactors, or other stirred tank bioreactors Experience with programming (VBA, Python, Javascript, C++) Understand statistical analysis using software (JMP, SIMCA, Minitab, Design Expert, R) and statistical design of experiments (DOE) Physical Demands Capable of pushing heavy containers on wheels Must be comfortable with physical activities of constant standing, walking, and sitting with arm stretching into biosafety cabinets for cell culture work and occasionally lifting 25 lbs. #J-18808-Ljbffr The Fountain Group
