Job Title: CNC Machinist

Job Description

This role focuses on setting up and operating conventional CNC mills and lathes to produce precision parts that meet strict specifications and quality standards. You interpret detailed work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, and geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T) to ensure accurate machining in a manufacturing environment, with an emphasis on aerospace parts inspection.

Responsibilities

• Interpret work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters, including geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T), to plan and execute machining operations.
• Set up conventional CNC mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers, and by indicating vices and trimming heads for proper alignment.
• Operate CNC equipment, including Haas machines with Fanuc controls, to perform drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing operations according to job specifications.
• Maintain dimensional and quality specifications by closely observing machining operations, taking precise measurements, detecting malfunctions, and troubleshooting processes as needed.
• Adjust and reprogram machine controls when necessary to correct issues, optimize performance, and maintain part quality and consistency.
• Sharpen and replace worn tools promptly to ensure efficient cutting performance and prevent defects in machined parts.
• Verify machine settings and setups by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample workpieces, ensuring adherence to established standards and tolerances.
• Use machine controls to retrieve CNC programs from the network and ensure that the correct programs are loaded and executed for each job.
• Change cutting tools and adjust the location of the workpiece during the machining process as specified in setup instructions to achieve required dimensions and finishes.
• Measure finished workpieces for conformance to specifications, using appropriate inspection tools and techniques, with particular attention to aerospace parts inspection requirements.
• Notify supervision of tooling wear, process issues, or potential problems, and add edits to accommodate actual cutter diameter so that parts consistently meet required tolerances.
• Perform all work in accordance with established procedures, safety guidelines, and ISO standards to maintain a safe and compliant manufacturing operation.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience as a CNC machinist, with hands-on experience in setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes.
• Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, and specifications, including geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
• Strong competency in setting up CNC mills and CNC lathes, including installation and adjustment of chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers.
• Experience working with Haas CNC machines.
• Experience working with Fanuc controls.
• Ability to work with 3–5 axis CNC equipment.
• Proficiency in drilling, grooving, and cutting materials, including turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing operations.
• Skill in measuring and inspecting parts for conformance to specifications, including aerospace parts inspection.
• Capability to retrieve programs from a network and use machine controls to run and adjust CNC programs.
• Ability to detect malfunctions, troubleshoot machining processes, and make necessary adjustments or reprogramming changes.
• Knowledge of and adherence to safety procedures and ISO standards in a manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Aerospace manufacturing experience preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with quality assurance procedures and processes in a production environment.
• Comfort working with precision measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills when dealing with tooling wear, cutter diameter changes, and tolerance issues.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding equipment status, tooling wear, and process improvements.

Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing environment focused on precision machining and aerospace parts inspection. You work on CNC mills and lathes, including Haas machines with Fanuc controls and 3–5 axis equipment, using networked CNC programs and a variety of tooling and attachments. The facility operates under established procedures, safety guidelines, and ISO standards, with an emphasis on accuracy, quality, and adherence to specifications in daily production activities.

This is a Permanent position based out of El Monte, CA.

The pay range for this position is $72009.60 - $101504.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
