Electric Distribution Technician

Job Description

Performs responsible semiskilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of the electric overhead and underground distribution system; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks

• Assisting in installing, maintaining and repairing electric overhead and underground systems; laying pipe, hanging transformers, driving trucks.
• Installs transformers; repairs street lights;
• Works closely with line technicians daily;
• Stocks truck with materials needed for duties;
• Assists in installation of underground primary and secondary wires;
• Removes trees and brush from work area; use of chainsaw;
• Drive trucks frames poles; installs hardware and pulls service wires from ladder;
• Required to be on stand-by, or; work emergency calls;
• Performs related tasks as required.
• Performs daily and monthly reports on equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Some knowledge of the procedures, practices, equipment, materials and tools used in the installation and maintenance of electric lines; some knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with the work and the safety precautions to be taken; ability to carry out complex oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers; skill in the use and care of tools; ability to perform manual work and work under adverse weather conditions.

Education and Experience & Special Requirements

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and some experience in the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution systems.
