Psychiatrist Child/Adolescent

Job Summary:

The Child/Adolescent Psychiatrist provides specialized psychiatric care to pediatric patients within the Behavioral Health Clinic at the Lawton Indian Hospital. This role involves evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health disorders in children and adolescents using psychopharmacology and therapy. The psychiatrist also offers consultation and training to behavioral health providers and community agencies, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, and supports health promotion and disease prevention in alignment with Indian Health Service standards. Responsibilities:

  • Provide child psychiatry consultation and in-service training to behavioral health and other health providers.
  • Conduct a minimum of eight patient encounters per clinic day, with additional encounters coordinated as needed.
  • Consult with community agencies regarding developmental and mental health screening, enrichment, and prevention services.
  • Deliver outpatient child mental health therapy and treatment planning for children and families.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions according to DSM-V criteria.
  • Offer psychiatric interventions including psychopharmacology and therapy services.
  • Participate in occasional inpatient medical unit consultations.
  • Coordinate care with primary care clinicians and behavioral health team members.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of all patient encounters in the electronic health record system.
  • Engage in health promotion and disease prevention activities, advising patients and community members.
  • Respect patient privacy, dignity, cultural, social, and religious needs while maintaining a partnership approach to care.
  • Comply with agency policies, The Joint Commission standards, and Indian Health Service professional service policies.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • Board Certification in Child/Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Active and unrestricted medical license to practice psychiatry.
  • Experience in diagnosing and treating pediatric psychiatric conditions using DSM-V guidelines.
  • Ability to provide psychopharmacology and therapy interventions.
  • Competence in electronic health record documentation.
  • Compliance with fingerprinting and background security clearance requirements.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Experience working within Indian Health Service or similar federal healthcare settings.
  • Familiarity with performance improvement activities and interdisciplinary team collaboration.
  • Experience providing consultation and training to behavioral health and community providers.
Special Considerations:
  • Position is a contractor role as an independent health care provider.
  • Must maintain medical liability insurance as required by contract terms.
  • Work conducted primarily at the Lawton Service Unit with possible schedule modifications by mutual agreement.
  • Must comply with tobacco-free environment policies on hospital grounds.
  • Contractor must indemnify the government for liability arising from acts or omissions during contract performance.
  • Contractor physicians retain control over medical and professional aspects of care provided.
Scheduling:
  • Clinic days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding Federal holidays.
  • Patient scheduling to accommodate a minimum of eight encounters per clinic day.
  • Work schedule may be hybrid with 50% or more in-person presence.
  • Additional patient encounters coordinated by clinic management as needed.
