Physician - PTSD Psychiatrist (SIGN ON BONUS)

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval – award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected, but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements United States citizenship; non‑citizens may be appointed only if it is impossible to recruit qualified citizens per VA policy. Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine. Degree obtained from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of completion. Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth or the District of Columbia. Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification. Alternative residency options: (1) ACGME or AOA accredited program completed in the year of graduation; (2) One year of post‑medical‑school training followed by two years of independent practice; or (3) Non‑U.S. residency followed by at least three years of verified independent practice in the U.S. involving duties related to the position. Residents in accredited programs who would otherwise meet basic requirements are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs). PRPs must hold a full license and can be appointed on an intermittent basis only. PRPs are not independent practitioners and are not privileged; under scope of practice, they perform restricted duties under supervision. Exception memos may be submitted to the VISN Director for qualified physicians whose record warrants revision of the residency training requirement. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Psychiatrists provide psychiatric care in all these settings; enable residents and nurse practitioners to evaluate and treat psychiatric patients; provide timely documentation via staff progress notes; cosign resident notes for supervision; trained to perform electroconvulsive therapy and supervise residents in scheduled sessions. Duty shift: 40‑hour work week, typical Monday‑Friday 8:00 am–4:30 pm (hours may vary) with scheduled call. Participation in on‑call rotation is required; available for all emergency psychiatric interventions during on‑call hours. Appropriately credentialed and privileged.
