Medical Assistant II

The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a patient centered 100% (40 hours a week) Medical Assistant II to work at our Bettendorf Pediatric Outreach Clinic. Our Medical Assistants develop relationships and get to know our patients and monitor patient care history and deliver personalized, compassionate care every time to each patient. This position supports our other clinics located within the building which includes but not limited to: Family Medicine, Dermatology, and Endocrinology. This position requires travel within a two-hour radius approximately once per month and includes the use of a fleet vehicle, along with paid drive time.

Summary:

Under direct supervision of LIP (licensed independent practitioner), RN (registered nurse), NM/ANM (nurse manager/assistant nurse manager) or other licensed designee, functions as a member of the patient care team. Performs technical, patient care and related clerical functions in the urgent care setting by coordinating all elements of the patient visit.

Duties to include:

• Staff will support our Outreach Clinic patients.
• Under direct supervision of physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or registered nurse.
• Performs technical, patient care and related clerical functions in an ambulatory setting.
• Duties may involve the use of electronic word/data processing equipment and/or conventional office equipment.

Percent of Time: 100% (40 hours per week)

Schedule: Variable hours accomplished between Monday - Friday from 7:30 AM 5:30 PM; no weekends, no on-call and no holidays

Location: Bettendorf, IA (and surround clinics/locations based on clinic needs)

Pay Grade: 09

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

• Certification OR registration as a Medical Assistant OR completion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program, OR Completion of a health care profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program including but not limited to: pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology and medication administration including dose calculation and psychology.

Special Qualifications:

• Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards
• Availability to provide support to other clinical locations based on clinical need/hours.

Highly Desirable Qualifications:

• The ability to adapt quickly to different clinical environments and patient populations is highly desired.
• Previous (minimum 1 year) experience as a Medical Assistant.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Current course completion card in Basic Cardiac Life Support for Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association.
• Phlebotomy experience.
• Previous healthcare support experience, 1-3 years in healthcare setting in Pediatrics
• Demonstrated experience fostering a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment.
• Computer skills and ability to navigate the EMR - Epic, Word.
