Job Title: Painter Helper

Job Description

The Painter Helper supports the production of high-quality signs by preparing surfaces for painting, assisting with fabrication and assembly tasks, and helping to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient shop environment. This role is hands-on and physical, and it offers opportunities to learn paint preparation, spraying, and other industrial production skills while working closely with experienced team members.

Responsibilities

  • Sand and prepare signs and components to ensure surfaces are ready for painting.
  • Tape and mask surfaces accurately before paint application to protect non-painted areas.
  • Move and position large or heavy signs and materials throughout the shop in a safe and controlled manner.
  • Inspect surfaces prior to painting to confirm they are properly prepared and meet quality standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including regular cleanup of dust, debris, and materials.
  • Assist painters and other production team members with daily tasks and projects as needed.
  • Prime and/or paint signs using spray equipment when qualified and authorized to do so.
  • Safely work around paint booths, spray guns, paint mixers, and other production equipment, following all safety procedures.
  • Support fabrication, assembly, and construction-related tasks as directed by the production team.
  • Accurately use a tape measure to mark, measure, and verify dimensions for production work.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to perform hands-on, physical work for extended periods.
  • Capability to safely move and handle larger materials and heavy signs within the shop.
  • Strong attention to detail when preparing, masking, and inspecting surfaces for paint.
  • Willingness to learn new production and painting techniques and follow instructions carefully.
  • Comfort working around industrial equipment such as paint booths, spray guns, and mixers.
  • Basic ability to use a tape measure accurately for measurements and layout.
  • Entry-level candidates are welcome to apply, with a strong work ethic and reliability.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in automotive paint preparation, auto body work, painting, sanding, or industrial production is preferred.
  • Experience using spray guns or applying primer is a plus.
  • Comfort working in a shop setting with paint and production equipment.

Work Environment

This role is based in a production shop environment that focuses on sign fabrication and finishing. The environment requires attention to detail, consistent cleanliness, and organization of the work area. Overtime may be available depending on production needs, and you can expect a practical, task-focused atmosphere centered on quality and efficiency.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Myers, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
