Assistant Principal Scientist, Computational Chemistry

Insmed seeks an experienced computational chemist to serve as senior technical authority for physics-based drug discovery tools. The role involves providing hands-on computational support across small molecule programs from hit identification through lead optimization, collaborating with medicinal chemistry and structural biology teams.
Responsibilities
- Serve as senior technical expert providing hands-on computational support across multiple small molecule discovery programs
- Generate and test scientific hypotheses that inform compound design and project strategy decisions
- Apply advanced computational methods including docking, MD, free energy, and QM to guide medicinal chemistry
- Collaborate with medicinal chemists, structural biologists, and DMPK teams to address multi-parameter optimization challenges
- Evaluate and lead adoption of emerging computational methodologies to improve scientific productivity
Requirements
- PhD in computational chemistry, chemistry, chemical physics, biophysics, or related discipline
- 8+ years post-PhD industrial experience in computational chemistry for small molecule drug discovery
- Deep expertise in physics-based methods: docking, molecular dynamics, free energy calculations, QM, water thermodynamics
- Strong understanding of medicinal chemistry principles, structure-based design, and multi-parameter optimization
- Demonstrated experience developing computational strategies that influence lead development decisions
- Excellent communication skills to convey complex science to multidisciplinary and senior teams
