Lead Youth Development Professional

$21.5 per hour
Full-time

Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Oregon

Position Summary

The Lead Youth Development Professional (Lead YDP) plans, prepares, and consistently delivers safe, structured, and engaging youth development programs. The Lead YDP is responsible for an assigned cohort with ratios of up to 1:20 and may be supported by Youth Development Professionals (YDPs) in the program space. The Lead YDP owns the program plan and directs how supporting YDPs participate in delivery through a co-teaching model; this responsibility does not include direct supervisory authority. The position also requires active supervision, accurate member check-in and check-out, behavior support, transportation of members, family engagement, and completion of assigned closing procedures.

Essential Responsibilities

1. Program Planning and Preparation

  • Develop complete weekly program plans that align with the organization's youth development mission, annual objectives, and program standards.
  • Submit weekly program plans in SharePoint by the deadline established by the Club Director and revise plans when requested.
  • Prepare materials, equipment, and program spaces before activities begin so programming can start on time.
  • Plan age-appropriate activities with clear objectives, structured instructions, opportunities for youth voice, and reasonable adaptations for member needs.
  • Follow the established daily Club schedule and obtain approval from the Club Director before making material changes to scheduled programming.

2. Program Delivery and Member Engagement

  • Personally lead and consistently deliver scheduled programming. Program delivery is a required function of the position and may not be replaced by unstructured free time, movies, or alternate activities without approval from the Club Director.
  • Provide clear instructions, model participation, maintain appropriate pacing, and keep members actively engaged from the beginning through the conclusion of each program block.
  • Assess participation and adapt facilitation, groupings, or supports while preserving the intended program objective.
  • Measure program impact through participation information, written observations, member feedback, and other required tracking tools.
  • Assist members with academic success, time management, organization, and development of social, emotional, physical, and vocational skills.

3. Program-Space Leadership and Co-Teaching

  • Coordinate the work of supporting YDPs during assigned program blocks by identifying co-teaching roles, assigning areas of support, and providing clear direction for activities and transitions.
  • Model effective youth development, active supervision, positive behavior support, and professional communication for supporting staff.
  • Ensure supporting YDPs understand the program objective, member needs, safety expectations, and their responsibilities within the room.
  • Promptly refer employee performance, conduct, attendance, or accountability concerns to the Club Director. Lead YDPs do not issue corrective action or independently manage employee performance.

4. Active Supervision, Attendance, and Transitions

  • Maintain assigned staff-to-member ratios of up to 1:20 and provide continuous, active supervision of members.
  • Maintain visual awareness, conduct accurate headcounts, respond to radio communication, and ensure program areas are never left uncovered.
  • Check members into and out of the Club using the organization's designated system and verify that departures are properly authorized.
  • Check members into and out of individual program spaces so staff can accurately identify each member's location throughout the day.
  • Lead safe, timely, and orderly transitions between program spaces, transportation, meals, outdoor areas, and dismissal.

5. Behavior Support and Family Engagement

  • Build positive, respectful relationships with members through active listening, consistent expectations, encouragement, and appropriate boundaries.
  • Use proactive behavior-support and de-escalation strategies and apply the Club's behavior procedures consistently.
  • Complete behavior logs, incident reports, and other required documentation thoroughly and promptly; immediately notify the Club Director of serious, repeated, or safety-related concerns.
  • Participate in View email address on click.appcast.io calls and make positive phone calls home to recognize member effort, growth, participation, and success.
  • Communicate routine program and behavior information to families professionally and refer serious incidents, complaints, or sensitive concerns to the Club Director.

6. Member Transportation

  • Drive members from school to the Club and transport members to and from Club programs, events, field trips, and other approved activities as assigned. Driving is an essential function of this position.
  • Maintain all required driver qualifications, approvals, and training, including a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record under Club policy and insurance requirements.
  • Complete required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, transportation rosters, attendance reconciliation, and related documentation.
  • Enforce seat belt, vehicle conduct, loading, unloading, and member-accountability procedures at all times.
  • Immediately report vehicle concerns, transportation incidents, citations, license changes, or other matters that may affect driving eligibility to the Club Director.

7. Closing and Facility Procedures

  • Complete all assigned closing responsibilities and the required closing checklist before leaving the Club.
  • Reconcile member attendance and confirm that all members have been properly checked out or transferred to the supervision of the designated closing team.
  • Reset and clean assigned program spaces, return supplies and equipment to designated locations, dispose of debris, and leave rooms ready for the next program day.
  • Complete outstanding program, attendance, behavior, incident, and communication documentation before the end of the assigned shift unless otherwise directed.
  • Complete assigned final walkthrough and building-security tasks, which may include checking doors, windows, lights, electronics, equipment, radios, keys, and alarms.
  • Report unresolved safety, facility, member, or staffing concerns to the Club Director or designated closing leader before leaving.

8. Professional and Administrative Expectations

  • Report to work reliably and on time, prepared to fulfill assigned program, transportation, and closing responsibilities.
  • Wear the required Club uniform and maintain professional attire, grooming, and appearance appropriate for active work with youth and families.
  • Maintain accurate and timely program records, attendance information, timesheets, reports, and other assigned administrative documentation.
  • Protect member, family, and employee confidentiality and communicate through approved organizational systems.
  • Maintain Club equipment and supplies in good working condition and promptly report damage, shortages, or facility concerns to the Club Director.
  • Complete required organizational and Boys & Girls Clubs of America trainings and participate in team meetings, professional development, and safety activities.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, safety requirements, and professional standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Oregon.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Club Director.

Performance Evaluation

The Lead YDP will participate in two formal performance evaluations each year with the Club Director. Performance will be evaluated based on program planning and SharePoint submission, consistent program delivery, member engagement, active supervision, attendance accuracy, co-teaching leadership, behavior support, family communication, transportation safety, documentation, professionalism, reliability, closing compliance, and adherence to organizational policy. The Club Director may establish additional performance objectives and expected outcomes based on Club and program needs.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in education, youth development, recreation, social services, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working effectively with school-age youth in structured group settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and facilitate engaging activities for multi-age groups and manage both small-group and large-group programming.
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to use SharePoint and other required technology for planning, attendance, communication, and documentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a co-teaching model, give clear in-the-moment direction, and refer personnel concerns through the appropriate supervisory channel.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain certification within the timeframe established by the organization.
  • Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and ability to meet all organizational and insurance requirements for transporting youth.
  • Successful completion of all required background checks, drug screening, and onboarding requirements.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Ability to continuously supervise and respond to youth throughout classrooms, shared spaces, vehicles, playgrounds, and other indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, sit, and move throughout Club facilities and program locations for extended periods.
  • Ability to participate in active programming and respond promptly to routine and emergency situations.
  • Ability to safely operate an organizational vehicle and supervise members during loading, transportation, and unloading.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
